I say no as every nation should have some sort of military or defense. Plus the army probably will help out with natural disasters so that would be one reason to keep them.

Probably the same reasons as why every other country has one, but specifically to invade the North

Thing is nobody will ever invade even if they did an Irish army would have * all chance anyways I'd rather the resources for disaster relief just get spread between the garda fire brigade and the ambalince services

I would vote yes, simply so that Scotland can invade them and occupy the land in order to get away from England :smiley-laughing002:

Britain is the ROI first line of defence, in all matters of national defence and security. an uncomfortable fact for most of you, but its true.

Ireland has about 7,500 squaddies, thats it. Most of them are weekend warriors. Its almost as if they exist for the point of existing. They rely heavily on Britain's 186,000 strong military to defend the island if anything ever actually did happen. And Britain would.

I love Ireland. But Ireland? Irish Military? Its like talking about the Jamaican military.

It's strategically the best place to attack Britain from.

They do great peace keeping work and regional work at home too. Having an army that keeps peace in other places rather than cause destruction is something to be proud of.

Voted no, they are involved with the UN and that's a good thing. As for the capabilities or lack of them, that's neither here nor there.
