    You're correct regarding junior bankers.

Dhaibi - I don't think anyone in investment banking looks at the work hours/pay trade off favourably, but it is a golden ticket to high level banking jobs, private equity, hedge fund positions and fund management roles that could easily see them clearing £millions per year at a relatively young age. It's one of the few careers I've come across where people who are aspiring to work in the industry already have an exit strategy before even landing a job.

So what's the average retirement age then? Do many of them actually leave the industry early? Or are they sucked into it and work themselves to death?

Essentially, everything is for the future.

The norm is to work 3/4 years like this as an analyst and hope that you don't burn yourself out. Then, jump ship to something less physically/mentally taxing like Hedge Funds or Big 4 accountancy etc.

Someone coming out of a bulge bracket bank is in demand in several different sectors i would say.

Not sure about the average retirement age, obviously a huge industry with a very small % who make huge sums of money so wouldn't think its that low. I would say a decent number do leave, some to other finance related positions, some to do MBA's, some to do something completely unrelated like start their own business, travel, do charity work etc. suppose it's easy for people to get sucked in to some extent when the money is there. A fund manager at my form just left last week to do something similar at a smaller company, I've no doubt he was making over £5m per year after bonus, and probably clearing 7 figures for the last 5 years or so. Not bad at 35!:smiley-laughing002:

I've heard many people have that opinion before. They think those people are weird. Hey, who am I or you to say there right or wrong everybody has an opinion:rolleyes:

Tim, Vega made 15 million through his own legal business, do you not think well fair play to the guy? Or do you think he's a scumbag for it?

Your post read as though you thought people who don't want kids are scum bags :97:. For the record, I have no kids and didn't want any and I certainly don't feel like I have missed out on much.

As for Vega , speaking as someone who has his own IFA/wealth management firm, I obviously don't think he is a scumbag :50:

He was also a good signing as well, sure his debut was v hearts (6-1 and they scored first) or my memory is going :smiley-laughing002:

Did it? Well it was meant to:smiley-laughing002: Just to get a wee dig in and wind him up:86: But that's no my opinion am very open minded and believe people can do what they please.

But it is an opinion many people have.

An opinion I do disagree with is Daibhi saying Vega is a scumbag. He's ovbiously just jealous the guys done well for himself and worked his baws off to make millions within his own legal business. Fair play Vega:50:

Ok so you disagreed with my post, so you quoted it, but you've now admitted you disagreed with Daibhi's post on that Vega is a scumbag. So why didn't you quote his post as well? Because of that I assumed you agree with him:97:

If someone ,who has children, thinks those of us who don't have children are scumbags that would reflect on them far more than us (those that don't want/have kids). In fact, I would say that kind of thinking should see them not have kids as they are obviously very stupid people :smiley-laughing002:

I think you are getting mixed up here. I don't think Daibhi thinks Vega is a scumbag at all :50:

A think Vega should have done what Thomas Graveson done
retired to Vegas aged 32 with a * star ,his net worth £80million after investments paid off
