    Agree with all of this.

Boyata cannot, musn't, shouldn't be risked against Malmo in the most important game of our season, and with potentially career threatening consequences for Deila and Collins if we fail for the second time in a year to qualify for the Champions League.

i have all ready posted in this thread and i will say it again, the guy has hardly played much football in his career, so he will not be up to full sharpness yet, imo he has played better in the european games than he has in the league, i feel in the euro games he knows he has to be at full concentration at all times, but in the spl this is not the case when celtic have the possession id say 70 percent of most matches, it kind of echoes john collins comments, guy can only get better.

Once he irons out the creases he'll be a huge player for us. So dominant in the air and strong in the tackle.

Behave, we all know the league won't come down to goal difference. :56:

No better than St.Mirren if we sell Van Dijk, put the rod away.

Most of our good centre backs in recent years have had shaky starts, Kelvin Wilson and even VVD didn't seem that great in their first 4-5 competitive games? Personally I think Boyata was solid against Qarabag and aside from a few stray passes he has been a good standard already and is likely to improve with game time. Something which he has lacked at Man City for a number of years..

The point he is making is academic but also valid. No team can afford to give away goals cheaply in defence in the league. leagues have been decided before on goal difference.

Hearts and Aberdeen have started strongly and look capable of mounting a league challenge. And we are second in the league. If Aberdeen win their game in hand we will be third. No grounds for complacency.

Well he was solid in both Qarabag games. And scored the goal to get us through.

4-0 up yesterday and he had nothing to do, that's probably the reason why his mind wandered a bit. He needs to cut it out but it's understandable. The Malmo game will be completely different.

It's why I think he'll be good for us. :50:

We all know that over the course of 38 games, Aberdeen and Hearts do not have the squad depth or quality to mount a real title challenge. We will be champions by the end of the season.

Boyata has shown much more to be positive about than to worry about, despite his mistakes.

Quarabeg were a crap team. Malmo are about two or three levels above them IMO.

Boyata is * up big time now and that is all that matters.
How easy we forget how Ambrose * up big time too, when we didn't need to play him in that Juventus game.Same criteria applies here. We have other options for Wednesday. We should be playing the percentages game against Malmo, no unnecessary risks. And Boyata constitutes at this point in time an unneccessary risk.

Right so who do we play?

    Ambrose? Worse than Boyata.

Mulgrew? Always takes an absolute age to release the ball, typically plays 3 or 4 'Hollywood' passes every game that never reach the player. Slow as a week in the jail.

Boyata is still the best option.

The two credible options are Lustig or Mulgrew at centre back. Ambrose is not a credible option.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this.

Who would you play there? And I feel like people are honing in on and focusing on his mistakes, so far, rather than his overall showing, at this point. Nobody think their being a bit unfair? Not everyone we bring in is gonnae be like Denayer. Boyata is solid and has quality, nobody thought he had a pretty good game until the end of the Caley game? He could've done better but I would say the most worrying thing to take from the end of the Caley game is how much we rely on Broony, we need other midfielders to up their grit, etc.

Right so we move our best full back out of position. Then who comes in for him, Janko? He's not ready yet.

    But aye, fair enough.

See my post above. Either Lustig or Mulgrew would be fine against Malmo.
Thy both can play that position comfortably and don't have the brain disconnects that Boyata and Ambrose suffer from.

Have a look at that Malmo video. Look at their quick first touch football.
Would you seriously risk Boyata in a match of such magnitude against a team of Malmo's caliber ?. Seriously ?

In his current form I'd certainly favour Mulgrew over Boyata, especially in the games against Malmo.

Say what you want about Charlie, but he has big-game experience. Boyata doesn't.

Janko has played well in the little we have seen of him, he comes with a good pedigree from a good team, he is very fast, he would be a good outlet down the right in the event Forrest is overlooked by Ronny on Wednesday. I don't mind playing the percentage game if the odds are good. Janko looks a good bet to me, and a low risk bet at right back.

    But keep on...

Not a big fan of playing Mulgrew at CB, in the League don't mind so much, but in Europe don't like seeing him there.

So as much as I hate to admit it I think your right. Boyata might be to much of a risk. I'd use League games to get him upto speed first before playing him in Europe
