At 16 though theres a certain level he can play at.

If I was him id take a year at Celtic, followed by a year at a team in the Netherlands or Belgium, slightly higher level of League and maybe to a team guarenteed CL football so like Ajax/PSV/Anderlecht and then at 18 he could go on loan to a Spanish team for a season when he should be capable of a full season in the Spanish League then playing for Real when he's 19.

Going on loan to for example Deportivo this season and only being bit part maybe playing 15/20 games mostly as a sub, then having to step down a level the year after wouldnt be a good way to go. He should build up to play at higher levels.

Norway > Scotland > Netherlands > Spain > Real Madrid

Deila stated earlier in season he isn't ready for celtic. So why on earth take him now. Pig sick of these loan deals tbh.
It only puts one of our younger players down the pecking order, why should we sit and develop another teams player with no chance of signing him.
Madrid you bought him! Put in the work and develop him yourself and stop being a monopoly buying every decent prospect and then expecting other clubs to use there resources/time/money making YOUR player better!

He has the ability to go on and be the world's best. A year would do both sides no harm.

If we loan him and hes good enough to play for us then he's good enough to play for us, wether he is developing is neither here nor there.

Same if we loaned him and he played poorly, then he'd get benched and get it up him, we wouldnt play him on reputation.

Berget,Wakaso, tonev ect and we r complaining about a 16year old from real who the coach knows. This will only be a good thing for many reasons if it happens.

Deila stated he wasn't at the level of Kris Commons, to give Kris Commons a boost.

At no time did Deila say Odegaard was not good enough for Celtic.

Majority of our young players aren't good enough.

I'd rather get a quality young player on loan for a year who would actually make an impact (Denayer) than waste time trying to develop someone like Luke Donnelly who, with the greatest respect, will probably never do anything. I know I'm just assuming that but looking at the majority of our youngsters you can tell within a couple times of watching them if there is anything there. Henderson for example, it was clear from the get go. McGeady and Maloney as well.

We should be praying this happens. Our name on potentially one of the best players in the worlds development is only a good thing.

Good benchmark to see how good our young players are, if he is head & shoulders above then it will let them know they have to work harder.
If he isn't, it would show us how much talent we have..... Can't really see any negatives tbh

I didnt want this to happen either, but thinking about it more...Im all for it.

Look at it this way, if we are seen to develop young players into potential world stars, or played a part in it then whats the harm in this? It will look good for Celtic Football Club and tomorrows potential world class players will look at this football club as the place to be.

I do hope he comes and it works out. For example, Denayer has done well being here and has reaped praises, now Lyon are looking at him.

    This.
Being seen as a stepping stone to big money seems to be more appealing to playing in europe dozen tines a year

Nah just no for me at all tbh. I would rather we developed our own, but mibi im just old fashioned that way.
If we did sign him what is going to happen? 1 year then back to madrid with him saying celtic is a great club the fans are amazing and then we have wasted a year with someone who isnt our own. When we could be training one of our own.
Maybe our youths might not be upti much BUT we will never know if we dont play them.
Hate the idea of loaning a player who at his age chose the mighty mighty glorious galacticos and the usual hype that goes with it.
Its a slap in the face, ur no good enough for madrid so * off tay celtic and waste the chance of a kid fay glasgow ect living his dream and trying his hardest to amount to something here with us!
Martin u and yer daddy had the pick of europe and u chose probz the worst team for a youth player to break into.
You made yer bed now go lay in it. Its a resoundong no from me.

If he contributed to a succesful season how is it a wasted year?? He could score the winner in both domestic cup finals and help us finally land a treble. Loan deals can be an excellent way to improve the team.

    If and buts mate.
Aye loans are great if we have an option to buy. But taking a 16yo on loan because hes from madrid and a reputation is a slap in the coupin to our kids who are trying there hatdest.

Put into perspective if u were a kid in that celtic youth team on the verge of breaking through and then he pops along. How would you feel? You would feel like pish and wonder if ur hard work is worth it.

Fyi has anyone actually watched him for a run of games against teams to judge him rather than a youtube montage? Big reputations as the next big thing mean * all in football.

Who is he going to replace in that team then if he came? Gms johansen forrest bitton brown ? Waste of a place on the bench tbh.

Agree with this in that I'd much rather develop our own. I know people may cite Denayer as an example of a great young player to have on loan for a season, but let's face it nobody had heard of him last year and thought, if he did come good we may have a chance of signing him permanently. However we know full well this lad would be heading back to Madrid next season. I'm out.

None of our own youths get near Odegaard in terms of ability. We can still develop our own and have him in for a year, maybe even two years who knows.

You never know. Ronny was the man who nurtured him and gave him his chance, and I would love to see him do that with one of our home grown if possible.

In the middle of writing this my opinion has slightly changed in that I now think having him about may be a great example to our youngsters.... Ronny knows what he's doing.

Odegaard is a great example to our own youngsters on what is required to be a top professional. If even half of odegaards approach rubs off on our own youths then it will put them in with a great chance of actually making the grade here.

We loan young players to smaller teams all the time, which they play at the expense of their own youths, we aren't above doing the same thing ourselves.

If a young talent can come here on loan and get a chance to play in front of big crowds and experience European nights with us, the it increases the prospect of us being able to sign young talents permanently. Anyone who doesn't believe that boyata coming here had a lot to do with how denayer got on with us is just kidding themselves
