Watching Henderson first time playing in Rosenborg now, it's obvious that Ødegaard is on another level.

You can't have enough quality players, ah well if they're on loan. I'll be excited as * if we get him even for a year.

I have seen a lot of Ødegaard and what makes him so specially talented, is his football brain. He has the vision, understanding and decision making at a level most players will never reach. To have those qualities at 15/16 is insane and that is what makes me so excited whenever I watch him play.

Saying that, I have watched every minute of his Castilla games and for him to show his qualities, there really need to be coherent movement around him. He is very mature in a footballing sense and has the knowledge of when to try the spectacular and when to keep possession in the team. Reminds me a lot of messi in the way he can thread the perfect weighted thruball in gaps you only see players of the top top standard ever achieve, after cutting on from the right.

He lacks defensive skills, and has shown at the madrid reserves that he sometimes struggles to get involved in the games. Saying that, they are clearly playing for themselves and try hollywood solutions instead of getting the ball moving, which is one of Martins best qualities. I think that the second youngest in the castilla is 19 which tell its own story I guess.

Like Ronny said in his presser today, Ødegaards attitude is not in question. You'll do very well to find a more grounded hard working kid. The boy just loves football and used to go straight from first team trainings out to his local pitch and keep going at it. iiirc strømsgodset had to ask him not to over do it when it was reported he trained for 6 hours a day :smiley-laughing002:

Saying that, I think Gould is a huuuge talent also and more of a goalscorer than Ødegaard. I was in awe after I saw some youtube footage some years ago, such a shame Celtic didn't/couldn't get a deal done.

I think Madrid will let the lad go out on loan. It's certainly possible they would favour sending him here to get some game time.

But will he get the game time. Is he better than Henderson

The most important question is that at this moment in time is he a better option than our first team regulars? With time he likely will be but at this minute I would doubt he is.

If we are looking to sign Bakkali or a player of his kind, I don't see the necessity to loan yet another wide/attacking midfielder. We need a striker, who at least can challenge Griffiths, and one or two CB, depending on who leaves and who stays.

Watched a video of his highlights for Real Castilla and he is showing some promise by the looks of it. Some lovely passes and touches.

Would love him here for a season, reckon' he'd do well and also just to say we had him.:56:

Why would we want him here? Doesn't he play Johansens/Commons/Hendersons/McGeoch/McGregor/Rogic's position?

Could even argue a couple other people would be best suited to that position as well. Would much rather we tried to develop our own players.

McGeough, McGregor and Rogic aren't going to get a decent chance in that role, simply because none of them are good enough.

I agree with dodoronronny.... this boy might go on to be a special player. If there's a chance we can bring him here for a season and enjoy his talent then we should take it. If our own youths were good enough I doubt RD would be looking at this deal, if he is.

2 of those players have no future at celtic, one is struggling to even make the bench and one has been loaned out to rosenborg to get playing time. we're not as blessed with quality in that position as your trying to make out.

odegaard can play on either flank too which is why he would be useful. id like to see henderson given the opportunity too, but i think hendersons future could lie in the centre of midfield so i dont necessarily think they would need to be competing.

we will be losing wakaso, tonev, probably stokes and hopefully derk in the summer. that leaves us with johansen, commons, gms, armstrong, forrest and mcgregor as players competing for 3 positions. with forrest's injury record and question marks over mcgregor's ability, thats possibly 4 players to cover 3 positions at times which isnt enough given the amount of games we would play.

no-one coming through our youths in these position is ready to step up at the moment, so i think odegaard would be a good option for a season and then re-assess our youths again after that.

Aye, I'd much rather O'Connell than Denayer (who is the only example in our history).

Has the ego of a superstar according to reports in the Spanish media. Thinks he is too good for the Castilla team. Personally id like to see us not go near the guy. If it happened id envisage a period of turbulence, Ronny mentoring him and helping him mature and iron out his issues and then returning to Madrid a better more mature player, only to their benefit. I don't see what we would stand to gain as im not sure what he can bring to our side. Stick to developing our own players.

He is too good for the Castilla team, I don't think it's an ego issue. On the other hand, he's not good enough for Madrid yet.

Don't really see the point of the loan either though. At this point GMS and Armstrong are better players than him and as you say there's no point in developing players for other teams except when you really have to, like with Denayer.
