By the way, I said back then that VVD should had been sent off. I would like to deeply apologize as I was watching the match in such a lagged and bad quality stream that I mistook Butcher's leg for VVD's in the replay.

Boeriggter had contact at st Johnstone and the ref saw and gave a penalty. How is this different?

Derks was more of a pen, away and nudged from behind than a guy wriggling through 2 players and just dropping..

Blatant * dive, they make you sick, so the wee * can play against us..

Quite glad the SFA have pulled up Ciftci and offered him a two game ban for violent conduct. Violent players like Ciftci have to be shown there are consequences for their actions. I expect Virgil and Paton to get their red cards rescinded now.

@BBCSportsound: Celtic describe lack of action against Dundee Utd's Calum Butcher as "completely illogical and fundamentally unfair". More on #BBCSportsound

CELTIC Football Club notes that no action appears to have been taken in relation to Calum Butcher of Dundee United.

It seems completely illogical and fundamentally unfair that, in an incident where mistaken identity has been claimed, the Dundee United player now identified clearly as being involved in the incident appears to have no case to answer - and would be available to play in the League Cup final and the Scottish Cup replay between the two teams - while Celtic’s player may potentially miss both of those matches.

Celtic Football Club and Virgil van Dijk maintain their position that no red card offence was committed by Virgil.

Virgil will appear at Hampden to put his case on Thursday and we will fully support him in this appeal.

League Cup Final and the replay. Think it might be possible for him to miss the league game with us as well though, as he was already suspended for the LC final? Not heard this from anywhere, just something I thought of now, remember in Lenny's first season he had 2 touchline bans which the SFA wanted him to serve one after the other.

Thanks the reason I asked is because I was sure he was already banned from the final do hopefully he misses the next 2 also although I suppose they can appeal it.

Definitely something badly wrong with the game in Scotland as Maguire 1 said Boerrigter definitely received a nudge and it was interrupted that he didn't get enough to go down .
Connolly dived without any assistance .
It was clear to anyone who viewed the incident between Virgil and a Dundee Utd player that the UTD player was far more aggressive. Yet he has no worries about missing on Sunday .

Now we have known for decades about a bias towards the Govan club. How the * are they picking against us v Dundee United . I know they are incompetent but surely not that incompetent .

The Celtic statement is bang on, I said that to my mate. They have made a rod for their own back now by not bringing action against Butcher, if Paton was the 'wrong guy' then surely you have to punish the 'right guy'??!?! So now it's like no Utd player is deemed to have done anything wrong, therefore neither did Virgil. Rescind his red, thank you.

As for Connolly. Wee diving * and he's got away with it!! His impish little grin whilst sitting on the ground said it all. Has the wee hard man walk but acts like a *. Desperate to fall over as soon as he got in the box. See how his wee legs last at Hampden.

Please don't think that any punishment thrown at Lennon is likely to be handed to a Dundee Utd player . That would demonstrate even handedness . Not possible in Scottish Football.

Stop calling me Maguire, how many times do you need telling

As for the ciftci ban, what example is this setting when you ban a guy for 7 games with no proof whatsoever anywhere but ban a guy for 2 for booting someone in the head, live to the world. Only here..

Am on the fence with Virgils, he looks like he is planting his foot with a bit of force and trying to 'coincidently' catch the guy but he never caught him barely brushed him, both of them just deserved yellows but if Virgil gets done then Butcher needs to get done as well.

The fact that Butcher was not charged is probably a good news/bad news thing for Van Dijk:
The bad - The video CLEARLY shows Butcher kicking out at VVD with obvious malicious intent; It is quite shocking how this could not have been charged, especially considering Ciftci has been charged for similar.
The good - with Butcher NOT being charged, it is hard to see how VVD's charge could possibly be upheld, given there is NO indication of any even accidental, let alone deliberate action to injure Butcher.

Although Butcher was clearly an aggressor - and shockingly not charged accordingly - I'll 'take' that if VVD is absolved. He deserves to play at Hampden in the final and in the replay, so I'll 'settle' for that, even if not true justice for Butcher.

Now - if VVD's appeal is rejected - which frankly would be incredible if it was - then how not charging Butcher could be justified would be ludicrous.

Connolly dive - I think on the day, if Ref had called it dive, it would be upheld as such if appealed; but similarly, because it was not, that a dive is not going to called retrospectively. Why? Just not enough evidence to state 100% conclusively in my opinion to overturn the decision on the field.

Honestly guys, the scenario where Dixon, Butcher, Connolly & Ciftci would all be banned, with VVD being absolved, was just never on the cards, regardless of how meritorious each individual case would be.
