Think the best partnership this season has been Stokes and Izzy, he's been our most creative player as well. Armstrong has done well in his two games, don't think he offers the same threat as Stokes though.

He also has a great understanding with Griffiths and knows when to play the early ball.

Supposedly we haven't won in our last 7 games against Italian opposition. Drew 2, lost 5. Sounds about right.

Now. Commence pumping like it's 1967, please.

Struggling to remember a time when Stokes played well against decent opposition.

Spot on, that's the exact line up I'd choose. This squad looks to be playing well as a team and linking up nicely.. Wouldn't risk Commons unless he's 100% and I think GMS can play some nice wide play and if he tires out too quickly get stokes on for the last half hour! I was wanting Guidetti upfront before but not too sure now, think he just wants out the club! a man must be a celt on and off the field:50:

Only on this forum you'd see folk bricking it Incase we lose the league to Aberdeen, lose to the Huns, then in the space of a few weeks we will win the treble and beat inter :56:

I don't see any need for change mate. I can understand why people want Guidetti to start, but I don't see how you can drop Griffiths with his form of late, and he is scoring goals also. Mackay-Steven in his first two games has put in an incredible amount of running, and that is why he has tired as the game has gone on. I've no problem with that whatsoever, if he runs himself into the floor for 60-70mins, he can be replaced. Likewise with Armstrong. I don't think either of them are at the same level fitness wise as our other players, something that both admitted in their interview last week, but that will come with time. We have decent options from the bench now, and that is a huge plus.

The tie, mate. Not so long ago tonight's result would have also been important to me, but that home record thing is long gone now. Nowadays I'd quite happily take defeat tonight if it meant qualifying away in Milan.

Nowadays? I'd have always taken that in any circumstance :97:
And we've much more than a 10% chance imo..

Stokes for Commons if he doesn't make it. GMS and Guidetti to come on if we're behind late on.

I used to feel ambivalent before, of course I wanted us to go through; but I was also very proud of our home record. Not saying I would have preferred to win the home leg and go out than to lose at CP and go through; just that my feelings were more complicated back then, whereas now my desires are much simpler.

I think the key word in my post was "happily", mate.

Ah ok fair enough mate. Our home record has always been a Champions League thing though really.

I think Armstrong is a cert to play on the left as his defensive capability will be vital with Shaqiri and Guarin on that side.. Izzy must work back fast tonight otherwise the 2 mentioned can hurt us.. I dont know who will get the nod on the right but I hope its GMS as he can hurt them with his direct attacking , he also works his socks off out of possession.. Thumb should start upfront as he's on form..

I agree! This is the best squad we've had under RD and we've got alot of options, general consensus seems to go with the line up you stated. GMS is like a Scottish Ronaldinho, he's got some skills and he's up and down the pitch fast, like you say, would much rather him work his hardest and his fitness drops 70 mins in than to play in half measures! To me this is the biggest game of the season so far and much bigger than Sevco.. I'm nervous but I'm gonna go with 2-1 to the bhoys

Gary Mackay-Steven.. The Scottish Ronaldinho :56:

  16. Matthews don't inspire me with confidence against Shakiri. Recon Ambrose could slot in there and do us a turn.
