He's not that bad though, he was probably after Gordon, Johansen and Brown our best player in the EL and last season in the CL he had decent games against Milan and Ajax.

I think we can trust him more than Commons, Mackay-Steven or Forrest if we are wanting to play a "footballer" in there, or we could go with more hard-working solid players like Griffiths, Wakaso and Armstrong possibly even Mulgrew if he's fit in a more lopsided team.

Even though I've not been impressed with him, and it would be a risk, if Stokes wasn't to play...I'd maybe put Wakaso in. His work ethic and pace could cause them problems.

    Anyone else?

If I was picking the team id play Wakaso. Id go for...

    Gordon
    Matthews Denayer Van Dijk Izaguirre
    Brown Bitton
    Griffiths Johansen Wakaso
    Guidetti

The trio of Griffiths, Johansen and Wakaso are fast and would run through brick walls in defence and attack. Inter won't like them running all over them.

    Could be a shout.

For the record I do like Stokes and he will probably start. However I completely forgot about Wakaso...he played most if not all of the group stage games? and is coming off the back of an impressive African nations.

I'm just thinking about pace to be honest, something Inter lack at the back. They won't be used to the pressing game either, as you say.

Stokes should and will start. No way should we be throwing Wakaso into this game.

Aye, pace, work-rate, harrassing and shutting down are our main strengths. We should be faster and able to our-run Inter if nothing else over the game.

If we were going to beat them 3-0 for example, it would be by pace and work-rate unsettling them, pressuring them and getting beyond them. It would be very unlikely for example that we could play Commons, Stokes and Guidetti and play through them with the ball on the deck at a slower pace.

...............when used as the lone striker (which he generally has been any time he has played in Europe).

Aye, I acknowledge that that's why I said if he wasn't to start. Out of everyone else available I'd take the risk and play Wakaso. Rather that than throw Armstrong or GMS in there, Wakaso has afterall played a part in our European run this season and is better suited to a game of this magnitude.

No, I don't think we could play through them, that would play right into Vidic and Rannochia's hands, assuming they are the two starting.

Ah ok. I'd probably start him over GMS or Armstrong too to be honest, but not over Forrest.

Whatever about stokes/Armstrong and guidetti/Leigh, a man that hasnt played for us in months should be nowhere near that LAM role.

Hm, it's a close one. If it's the left side then I don't think Forrest would be starting anyway. He's alot less fitter than Wakaso as well right now.

I'm not a huge fan of Wakaso like yourself, we have both spoke about his weaknesses but I think his strengths would help us in this one. We will need the wider players to put in a good defensive shift and he could do that as well as be effective on the break.

Never know, it could be his defining moment in a Celtic shirt as he is yet to really do it for me.

Look at my first post, I said IF Stokes wasn't to start.

Wakaso has featured in all of our European games though. I think throwing Armstrong into a game like this would be even more stupid.

I was just saying in general , like the last time he played for us people where complaining about the way we play that seems like ages ago now. We've changed a lot since he last played.

Wakaso has just come out of a big tournament, he should still be in that frame of mind and hungry to make up for the loss. Wouldn't start him, but would bring him off the bench. He has had plenty rest unlike Ambrose 2 years back.

Doesn't matter. Ambrose was a settled player in our squad, Wakaso has had about 7/8 games. He should be nowhere near it.
