    * sake!

    One of the greatest comedies ever was based around Christ's crucifixion!

    Folk moaning about this are no better than those who wanted the life of Brian banned.

    Grow a set and ignore if you are so offended.

    There's a big difference between 1 man who nobody can be sure if he's fact or fiction from millenniums ago and over 1 million people from 150 years ago

    If it was being produced by an irish tv company then fair doos, the fact that its channel 4 is obviously going to * some people off especially the people who don't see it as a famine

    Invalid argument mate, nobody is that thick!

    What about Blazing Saddles? It made fun of slavery and racism? is that allowed?...Pretty sure that happened.

    Irrespective of my view on this particular programme channel 4 are a bunch of * in any case, used to be a decent channel when it started now it's just lowest common denominator, particularly Benefits Britain that was made for no their reason to stigmatise the unemployed for entertainment, I could go on and on with other examples.

    The amount of decent factual stuff they do now is at a bare minimum.

    I cant see a British TV company highlighting Britains part in this tragedy. Do you really think they will highlight the fact that enough food was exported out of Ireland to have prevented this famine from actually happening. Will they show the rich English landlords feasting while the peasant Irishman dies of starvation.

    If they dont distort the facts then I would not see much problem. However any factual account would lose its comedy value.

    I've never seen or heard of Blazing Saddles before is it a sarcastical approach to show how wrong things like that where?.

    And as a few on here say the Brit's won't take the blame in it I just see it as an attempt to trivialise the most tragic event in irish history and probably the most cruelest in British history

    Its a fair point, but if done correctly some humour can be taken from the most cruellest, tragic events in history.

    Blackadder goes forth; probably the most poignant moment of the series was when they "went over the top", yet in between was amazing moments of humour (my opinion only)

    Allo Allo is another example, doesn't get anymore tragic than * occupation in Europe yet the show found pantomime humour in the most desperate of situations.

    Btw nearly 400,000 Scots died and 1.7m emigrated during the same famine.

    Typical Irish trying to hog the Celtic limelight :)

    Black adder, dads army, allo allo, all made light of a war when survivors would have watching the programme. Comedy doesnt neccessarily trivalise an event. And its being written by an Irishman. If it's funny, it's funny. Too much fake outrage over things these days.
