Channel4 to make Comedy on Irish famine

It had to be a * Dub didn't it.

Seriously though, read up about it there and your man writing it was given total freedom in choosing what to do the sitcom on by Channel 4 and he chooses the famine? Struggling to see the funny side of it

Police in Scotland are making inquiries following complaints over a Twitter outburst about Ebola from controversial TV personality Katie Hopkins.

 

Where does it say he is making a joke out lf the famine? Just a comedy set during the famine, same as many comedies that are set in difficult times like the first world war in blackadder.

 

Channel 4 has given the Dublin writer full freedom to write his own scripts which he says is seriously daunting.

Asked by the Irish Times why The Famine, Travers stated, “Well, they say ‘comedy equals tragedy plus time’,” he says, laughing.



“I don’t want to do anything that denies the suffering that people went through, but Ireland has always been good at black humor. We’re kind of thinking of it as “Shameless” in famine Ireland.”

The Showtime US version of “Shameless” series depicts the dysfunctional family of Irish American Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his kids learn to take care of themselves.

So we are basing a sitcom on The Famine on a drunken Irish American series.

Hard to beat that I’d say.

What’s up next?? A sitcom on The Holocaust maybe with funny fat Nazis eating victims alive?

Or how about a comedy about Ebola with black kids dying on screen and doctors telling funny jokes about them?

As a kickoff to the New Year I doubt I will write a story about a more ridiculous idea for the rest of 2015.

I mean like a famine? Can you imagine if they did an Ethiopian comedy series?

 

You do realise shameless US is based on the british tv show made by channel 4? Anyway think it's too early to start slating the show, when there's not even a trailer or anything for it, the scripts probably not even finished, if it educates people about the events surrounding the famine then it's not exactly a bad thing
