Aye that's mental how Dundee United don't want to sell their star player to Celtic 2 months before they play Celtic in a cup final.

I'll bet the Dundee United fans are protesting right now demanding he is sold to us immediately.

They apparently rejected bids before they even knew they'd be in the final.

Also, it's Dundee United ffs, not Real Madrid, I don't care how much they've raked in, it's £2 million they cannot reject that sort of money, that's massive to them.

You don't think Dundee United rejected our earlier bids thinking they might get into the final? Don't be stupid.

They have the choice between selling now for £2million, or selling in a few months.. for £2million, maybe more. If less, marginally less.

They also have no debt I'm sure.

See Celtic and VVD, it's a similar scenario. Of course, no credit to Lawwell for holding on to him..

In all honesty, I don't think we put in a bid at all in the run up to the semi final. It was just Lawwell feeding * to the media to make it look like we actively trying to spend money, safe in the knowledge that people like you would defend him by saying Dundee United wouldn't deal with us.

Lawwell hasn't sanctioned the sale of VVD due to the pressure he received over the Summer.

Bullshit, they have no debt and as proved by their other sales they are becoming very efficient operating like this - they can easy reject 2 million now.

Because more than likely, they can still get that amount when the season ends.

As good a player as he is where is he going to play anyway in this team? Will he make us that much better? Maybe thats why were not paying the 2.5

It doesn't matter if we put in a bid if they were already rejecting bids. As you say??

So Lawwell, master of all, has his pawns in the media spread false rumours of transfers, safe in the knowledge that DU won't deal with anyone.

So you can't accept the logic that Dundee United may well not want to sell Armstrong to us or might be demanding over the odds from us for him?

It's completely unfathomable that Dundee United would do that even though it's a well known thing that does happen in football? Peter Lawwell must absolutely be lying (anonymously, of course)?

As a side note, you're saying the 'fake bid' strategy is an attempt to make people like me defend him? In all honesty I don't want us to sign Armstrong in this window, although I wouldn't mind seeing him join in the longer term.

I'm not here to defend Lawwell, he does my nut in too at times, I just can't stand folk talking * when they have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. By all means, speculate, but don't claim knowledge you just don't have.

"Apparently" being the key word, I personally do not believe we made a bid then, and Dundee United also said we didn't.

If the chief executive of a club phones up a Newspaper and says "We've made a big for ***" they're going to run a story on it. It's not as if he's held a knife to their throat and told them to run with the story.
