Talk about a kick in the balls. So near to getting a result too. Feel gutted for the lads, sounds like an unfair reflection on the game.

Mind when we hit Liverpool with a late goal, John Hartson rocket on the road to Seville.

LATE goals from Brooks Lennon and Cameron Brannagan saw a young Celtic side lose 2-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League International Cup.
The Bhoys couldn’t be faulted for their effort and application in Chester and Jamie McCart was close to putting them in front, before the Reds struck twice in the closing stages.
Substitute Lennon slotted home in the box following Corey Whelan’s low centre and then Brannagan fired into the top corner from 12 yards after Jack Breslin had been penalised for a foul on Madger Gomes in the box.
Celtic’s participation in the tournament is now over for this season, but they still have the UEFA Youth League to look forward to, with the draw for the last 24 taking place on Monday (December 14).
Tommy McIntyre had made three changes from the team that were defeated by Chelsea in the competition last week, with Sam Wardrop, Mark Hill and Innes Murray coming into the starting XI at the expense of Dan Higgins, Theo Archibald and Derk Boerrigter.
In wet and windy conditions, the home side enjoyed the majority of the early possession and, after a searching cross from left-back Sam Hart, neither Jerome Sinclair could profit in the middle.
Wardrop then had to charge down a shot from right-back Connor Randall, before Jamie McCart had to block Brannagan’s attempt after he had cut inside.
The Reds selected a number of players with first-team experience such as Joao Teixeira, who spent last season on loan at Brighton, and the 22-year-old’s inviting cross was missed by both Sinclair and defender Daniel Cleary.
Leo Fasan was called into action moments later, making a low save from Brannagan after the midfielder had been supplied by Sinclair, as the hosts continued to search for the breakthrough.
The Italian shot-stopper also had to make a stop from Teixeira, following a speculative effort from the Portuguese winger.
Although Liverpool were finding promising positions, they were being frustrated by some disciplined and determined Celtic defending
And as half-time approached, Breslin had to make an important challenge to prevent Harry Wilson pulling the trigger, with the Anfield side appealing in vain for a penalty kick.
Having repelled Liverpool’s advances, the young Hoops started to grow into the contest before the interval. A slick passing move saw Miller meet Nesbitt’s pass into the box but the forward was flagged for offside in any event.
McIntyre’s side emerged as a greater attacking force after the restart and Miller within inches of meeting Wardrop’s driven cross after some tenacious play down the flank from the young Celt.
The introduction of Theo Archibald for the start of the second half added more attacking enterprise for the visitors, and his cross forced Hart into a defensive header, with Ryan Fulton making the save.
With the game becoming more stretched, Teixeira curled a shot over, before Miller broke clear down the left and substitute Michael Johnston, aged just 16, would have had a tap-in had a Liverpool defender not made a last-gasp intervention.
In the 63rd minute, Jamie McCart had a golden chance to put the youths ahead when he met Hendry’s corner at the far post but his low effort was smothered by Fulton.
Wardrop was again to the fore for the Bhoys after another impressive run down the right but there were no takers in the middle after he cut the ball back from the byline.
As the game entered its closing stages, Liverpool began to pile on some concerted pressure. Lennon had a shot blocked from close-range and then Fasan had to make a fantastic reaction save from the same player.
But seconds later the Italian was beaten by Lennon, the young American striker steering the ball home from Corey Whelan’s cutback.
As Celtic pushed forward in search of a late leveller, they were caught out on the counter as Breslin caught Gomes in the box, resulting in a penalty. Brannagan converted emphatically from the spot to leave the battling Bhoys without reward for all their endeavour.

TOMMY McIntyre says his young charges will relish the challenge of locking horns with Valencia in the UEFA Youth League after Celtic were paired with the Spanish side in Monday's draw in Nyon.
The young Hoops will take on the La Liga outfit for a place in the last 16 of the prestigious competition after impressive wins over HJK Helsinki and Puskas Akademia in the domestic champions’ pathway of the tournament.
They will face a tough challenge from Valencia, whose Academy has produced a number of top-team stars for club and country, including Gaizka Mendieta, David Albelda, David Silva, Isco and Jordi Alba.
Former first-team favourite Miguel Angulo, who made well over 400 appearances during a spell lasting more than 10 years at the Mestalla, is in charge of their youth side.
But McIntyre told the official Celtic website that the Bhoys won’t be fazed at going head-to-head with the Spanish side as they aim to maintain their European adventure.
He said: “It’s a particularly tough draw as Valencia have a highly-renowned academy structure and they were also unfortunate not to top their group against Lyon. It was very close. To get 13 points in their group was a fantastic performance from them and an indication of how good a side they are.
“Every game for us has been a challenge and it’s something we all welcome, including the coaches, as it’s a learning process.
"It’s great we can get that experience and opportunity. We are delighted it’s a home tie and a one-off game, and you hope that’s got a bearing on it. They are a top side and one we will need to make sure we do our homework on.
“When I was with the SFA they had coaches from Valencia over and they speak highly of their academy and about the number of players coming through it and it’s similar with us – when we go away we are proud of the number of players coming through our own academy.
"We don’t know too much at this stage but we will endeavour to get as much information about them as possible.
“A sign of a good club is the respect they have for other clubs, and they will have the same respect for us as we will duly give them. Ultimately, it’s a competition and both teams will want to win it and will prepare properly to give them every opportunity to do that.
Along with the UEFA Youth League, the Bhoys have been involved in the Premier League International Cup, their participation in the competition coming to end following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to a strong and more experienced Liverpool side in Chester.
McIntyre said: “We said to the players at the end of it that we would take those games every week as it’s not about the result but about the challenge.
“We can’t always get it our own way and you probably learn more from the really tough games and that’s certainly what they were.
“We expected that, however, going away with such a young squad. We are in there to do well and to give the young players experience on the bigger stages.”
The Hoops will host Valencia in a one-off tie on February 9/10, with the venue still to be finalised. But, wherever the game is held, McIntyre is hopeful of big show of support for the Bhoys.
He said: As always, the fans are excellent, one of the best supports in the world. The young players really rely on the support and these games also gives them the chance to see some of the young talent coming through at the club. It will be a fantastic night for everyone.”
“It’s probably good as it’s in February and it gives us a wee break, not in terms of games, but in terms of the competition, as we have had a lot of tough games in Europe along with the EPL Cup but hopefully those games will stand us in good stead come February.”

Carlton Cole, Scott Allan, Logan Bailly, GMS and Tyler Blackett all starting for the development team tonight against Falkirk, having to play a strong side I think because the youths have 3 games in the next 6 days as they try and catch up on their postponed matches.

Bailly; Breslin, Kelleher, McCart, Blackett; Hill, Hendry; Mackay-Steven, Allan, Miller, Cole

subs: Hazard, McIlduff, Murray, Wardrop, Payne
