Chelsea spend a lot of money on bringing in youth players every season, wake up call for our youth in how much they still have to develop. Had some good results recently.

The young lad Palmer looked like he played well for Chelsea.

Tonight was going to be hard wasn't expecting that result

That no 7 for us was poor but I dont know he might have something about him. His touch let him down but he looked like a big and strong wide man. No player looked good for us at all though in fairness. Young nesbitt does not look to be ready for the first team either.

Yeah was expecting us to at least score a few.

Chelsea youths play at a higher level every week much like most teams we meet in Europe.

Think tonight's result probably is a result of the depth of squad Chelsea have even at that level more than anything, we've sent a fair few boys out on loan and obviously the likes of Tierney,Thomson and Donnelly weren't playing too and it shows when you try to step against a team from the Premiership even with the amount of youngsters they have out at other clubs.

    Tonight’s match report

A YOUNG Celtic Development Squad were beaten 5-0 by a polished and well-drilled Chelsea side in the Premier League International Cup at the EBB Stadium in Aldershot.
An unforgiving opening 15 minutes of quick passing and inventive movement from the home team left the Hoops with a mountain to climb as they conceded three without reply before Kasey Palmer made it 4-0 just after 22 minutes with a well-struck free-kick.
The margin could have been greater in the first-half were it not for a string of fine saves from Leo Fasan in the Celtic goal but there was little he could have done for each of Chelsea's strikes.
The Bhoys put in an improved showing in the second-half and managed to keep their hosts largely at bay, with Chelsea midfielder Charlie Colkett also seeing red for two poor challenges late on but they failed to find a way through the Blues rearguard before a late penalty from Reece Miller rubbed salt into the wounds.
The Celts will now look to get back to winning ways with next week's game against Liverpool.
Tommy McIntyre made five changes to his team for the match with Tyler Blackett, Conor McManus, Joe Thomson, Innes Murray and Nadir Ciftci dropping out from Tuesday’s 1-0 win over St Johnstone in favour of Dan Higgins, Aidan McIlduff, Aidan Nesbitt, Theo Archibald and Calvin Miller.
The Bhoys were in a good run of form going into the match and were undefeated in the league but they were undone twice inside five minutes as the hosts’ slick passing and high tempo cut the Hoops backline open.
Chelsea focused their early play down the Bhoys right flank and it was from there that they opened the scoring with Mukhtar Ali getting on the end of a low cut-back to slot past Fasan.
The Celts tried to regroup but went 2-0 down straight from the restart when the Blues won the ball back and again attacked down the left wing with Kevin Wright this time getting on the end of a low centre into the box to convert past Fasan.
McIntyre’s side sought an instant reply and had a good chance to do so when Derk Boerrigter found space in the box but the Dutch striker was flagged offside.
Just as the Bhoys looked to have settled and began to enjoy some possession, Chelsea struck again, with Ali turning provider for Charly Musonda to sweep home from inside the area.
Celtic’s uncharacteristic generosity at the back continued and they had Fasan to thank again for keeping the score down as Chelsea continued to pile forward but the resistance lasted only so long when Regan Hendry went into the book for a late last-ditch challenge on Palmer outside the box.
The playmaker dusted himself down from the foul and struck a well-hit free-kick over the Hoops wall and into the net beyond the outstretched Fasan to make it 4-0 with less than 25 minutes played.
Celtic eventually settled and began to enjoy more possession. A searching ball from Hendry from the left allowed Higgins to pull the trigger first time from outside the box but Jamal Blackman saved the shot well.
Chelsea then hit on the break and almost made it five before half-time but Fasan pulled out another brilliant save to tip Palmer’s swerving shot from distance round the post.
Celtic took off Boerrigter at half-time after the Dutchman went down under a challenge in midfield before the interval and replaced him with Sam Wardrop at right-back, with Nesbitt and Miller pushed forward into the front roles and Higgins moved into the middle.
The reshuffle instantly gave Celtic a more dynamic look with Nesbitt’s movement and Miller’s pace giving them options in attack but Chelsea were still comfortable on the ball and forced another great save out of Fasan when Colkett met Hendry’s deflection with a stinging first-time volley.
The Bhoys made another change after the hour mark with Innes Murray replacing Nesbitt to freshen up the attack but the hosts’ quick pressing and slick passing limited their time on the ball.
McIntyre’s team did, however, do more to plug the gaps in defence which had led to the early goals from the Blues but they had Fasan to thank again when he tipped another shot from Musonda round the post at his near side.
As the game approached its conclusion the Celts conceded a late penalty for a clumsy challenge on substitute Mitchell, who made no mistake from the spot to give his side a 5-0 lead.
It was a tough end to a difficult night for McIntyre's side but they will now look to regroup for the final match of the group stages against Liverpool.

    Wow just shows you.

To be honest, we've had plenty good results against big academies before but I think this is usually at earlier age groups (u16s).

The majority of that Celtic Dev team will be nowhere in a few years, another few will be SPFL players.

Where as Chelsea will have an 11 consisting of some of the top players in the world at this age group for each position - we only need to worry about 1 genuine talent coming through every year or so. That's the goal, if 9 of that 11 are passengers and 2 are standouts, that's absolutely fine.

I don't know much but Thomson was that was being raved about up until about the summer. You hear more about Nesbitt now.

Thomson is probably about 19-20 I'd imagine. Not sure if he's faded out or what?

Don't know if anyone is rated on a serious level other than that.

They need a new manager, when Lennon managed the development team im think they horsed Chelsea home and away, think Forrest scored about 5 goals alone in the 2 games against them.

So he did, just looked that up. No recollection of that.

19 in Jan. Let's get the lad on loan for the second half of the season, too much competition for him in that area, can't expect him to break through straight out the Dev team.

Jesus! I clearly didn't see the game, but there's some harsh criticism coming at the lads in here. We cant expect them to play well every game, and when a big setup like one of the premiership big 5 hit you a suckerpunch like Chelsea clearly did in the first 10mins it's always gonna leave you reeling.

The fact they were mature enough to regroup from 4 down at 25mins and hold their own fir the rest of the game is not exactky great, but surely merits credit. And sounds like Fasan had a good game. From the review it sounds like when we dropped Derk and left the lads do their nornal thing they stabilised, would that be accurate?

Agree. Could be a bad day at the office, could be a massive gap in quality.

However as I said, you aren't bringing through an 11 to the first team, you are only hoping for 1 or 2 standouts.

If next season Tierney, Henderson and Nesbit are all regular/ getting considerable game time then that is a decent return over a 2-3 year period.

Hopefully we see more though. But from what I hear Nesbit is the closest.

Also, I wish we'd produce the odd centre half or forward, so many in come through as wingers/centre mids.
