Manchester United - Celtic

Just wondered what Celtic fans thought about United.

I'm a United season ticket holder and follow them home and abroad.

In the past both United and Celtic fans have always got on very well, with both sets of supporters travelling to see their team play in testimonials and friendlies.

I know last year there was a bit of trouble, both at Celtic Park and OT, but it was nothing to big. This was probably down to the fact that tensions were running high as it was in the Champions League rather than just a friendly match.

I personally like it when Celtic come to OT because you always bring fantastic support, and you are usually trouble free. You are able to sit with the United fans and have a bit of banter, yet still support your team.

However, I have noticed on some websites that there is a bit of hostility now towards United by some Celtic fans.

In the past a lot of Celtic fans also followed United, and vice versa. Is this no longer the case?

And do Celtic fans now hate United?

Just thought I would ask on here as it seems the best place to get the opinions on real Celtic supporters.

 

I dislike utd,but it's mainly the players, not the club

 

I personelly cant stand Man Utd fans,where im from(Belfast)all my mates our Celtic fans but I know & work with alot of UTD fans,they our so arrogent,gloryhunting *,who in my experence dont seem to know alot about football,they only see UTD UTD UTD etc...you ask any football fan"what year was your team formed?"you usually get the correct answer,ask a man u fan 9 out of 10 times they will not know!!!Try yourself!!It made my year last year when we beat yous at parkhead,kept yous quiet for about a minute,iv nothing against the players(I think youve a good side there)but im my opinion your fans our *,yous our next to the huns on my hate list!!!Oh and another thing I was one of the ones who wasnt happy with "roy moneyman keane" coming up to finish his career with us,If he was so much of a Celtic fan he said he was he would of came when he was in his peak not using us as second rate(an easy retirement route) .* him too!!!

 

I don't like Man Utd. Never have. And to be honest I dont like any English team. Our fans can go anywhere and have a trouble free time of it, unless of course the rival fans are causing it. * sake when we played you at CP you were all in a pub at Queen St giving it Hullo Hullo n aw that pish lookin for *. I went by in the works van on ma way to the game and yous made me sick.

Whats your opinions on us then mate?

You like us because we come down and show yous how to party and behave at the same time? Plus fill your cities with cash. Thats how I see it with English teams.

Not every English fan is a trouble maker. And the "Hullo Hullo" chants are not aimed at Celtic, the song is an anti-City song that we sing.

As for my opinion on Celtic, I have never had any problem with your fans. Although it does seem the ABU nation of England has spread to Glasgow.

If I had to pick an English team it would be Arsenal. But I don't have to pick one so * them all. Up the Hoops.

 

I used to like Man U but in recent years I have gone right off them. I spent a bit of time on a Man U forum when Larsson went there and I have to say I found them arrogant and up their own *. I also have a bit of a problem with so many of their supporters coming from Essex and so on and not Manchester. There is an element of glory hunting among them.

 

I dont hate ManU.

i like man utd.
they play a nice style of football similar to ours though a wee bit less muscle and a wee bit more flair.

though i hate the fact they thought they could come up here and try and run glasgow. going into pubs looking for fights was nothing but childish, though it seems to be the way many english people think its acceptable to start fights and try and intimidate people.
as far as an english club goes, man utd are my fav.
i have no intrest in there fans, there league pos. anything.


THAT SAID: the stupid signings of english players for over 15million is laughable. man utd know fine well they could get ALOT better players for there money but for some reason like signing over priced over rated englishmen. i dont blame fergie for this though. i think hes being told to sign these english players

they know fine well that 99% of english players are over rated and over priced and simply look else were.

 

I must say, after reading the replies to this question, i'm proud of you fellow tims. Everything has already been said especially * all english teams, as for man u they wouldn't even be my fav manchester team, thats if i was inclined to like any of the *.
A bit like Rangers as well with the refereeing decisions going in their favour, what was the disgusting stat. with other teams refused penalties at old trafford?

but manu's support have a huggggeee element of glory hunting. And it seems to me now the club only wants money money money.

 

I like Man U, they play great football. Most fans aren't genuine though.

I take it the forum you were on was Red Issue. Do not pay attention to that forum, 90% of the people on there are wind up merchants, many Liverpool and City fans.

There are few genuine fans on there. Hardly any of them muppets go to OT or any away games. Don't judge the supporters by a forum because anyone can just login and pretend to be a fan, its easy to do.

As for the comments about United fans coming from Essex, well where exactly are you from mate? You from Glasgow?

United have fans from all over the world, and yes, we do have SOME fans from Essex like you say. But most people are just ignorant and keep churning out the same old comments like "United fans are all cockneys" and "they don't come from Manchester".

It's all a load of bollocks. Try going to Salford/Manchester and see how many reds you see. United's core support is Salford and Manchester. We just happen to have support from all over the world as well.

The only problem is that the club do not want local fans in Old Trafford as they do not spend enough money. They turn up at 2.55 on a Saturday after going to the pub, whereas the out of towners and day trippers go to the megastore, red cafe, museum, etc... because to them its a day out.

We have fantastic local support, people just choose to focus on our non-Manchester support because its the "cool" thing to do.

And while we are on the subject, Celtic fans should not criticise the location of supporters. Afterall, how many fans on matchday in Celtic Park actually live and come from Glasgow?

Celtic fans come from all over Scotland, Ireland and ENGLAND, as well as from abroad. Celtic Park is not full of Glaswegians, Celtic are no different to the likes of United, Liverpool, etc.

You mention us all being glory supporters, well correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't Celtic won more titles than United? Does that make your fans glory fans? If it makes United fans glory fans then it also applies to you.

If Celtic were just an average team in the SPL, how many fans from places like Dundee would actually be Celtic fans? How many would support there local team? Some may still support Celtic, but a lot would not.

I just find it very ironic that a lot of Celtic fans on here are having a go at United fans for things that Celtic supporters are also guilty of themselves.

And as for arrogance, just look at some of the comments above before making accusations at United fans.

There are some arrogant United fans, but talk to Mancunian reds and you will find that you can talk Football without the "I'm better than you" attitude. You will find that the Johnny Come Lately supporters are arseholes, all they care about is winning the league and singing about scousers.

The REAL United fans who have been going for years (through the good and bad times) do care about results, but their main focus is on the state of the club. These arrogant fans that people above have mentioned are not typcial United fans, they are just band wagon jumpers who probably could not even tell you the date of the Munich Air Disaster.

Don't judge all United fans by the actions and words of those idiots you all know who don't actually go to games. Even United fans don't like these dickheads, just read a United fanzine and see the divide in our support.

Like I said in my original post, I do not dislike Celtic at all, I just wanted to know what your opinion is of us. If you are going to judge us, please don't do so by judging the aresholes. Look at the local, loyal support.

We are more like your club than a lot on here think.

 

Sounds weird but I used to love Man U years ago when they were doing crap pre-Ferguson. I loved the history, the myth, they had a kind of magic sleeping giant aura about them very similar to Celtic (which is the main reason I became a tim). Everything was almost mythological-the busby babes, munich, geordie best, denis law etc etc. I think its the bling players like Beckham that took it away for me. As bestie once said of beckham -no pace, no left foot, cant beat a man. Loved guys like Mark Hughes, Paul Magrath, WGS etc though.
