    Wouldn't this require two referendums?

One for the north to separate from the Union, then one to join back with the south?

Or is there a simpler way?

Depends - what are your old folk like?

I got the impression that because the economy is bad its a problem. I have read that northern Ireland is incredibly subsidised by the UK with most of the jobs in the public sector and that it would cost the south a fortune to prop the place up as the Republic its a much smaller country than the UK. I also read some polls that suggested a majority was unlikely because the middle class catholics seem to be likely to do what Scots just did and put fear over their wallets over freedom.

Is that a question you should really ask any celtic fan? And he didn't say he didn't support an united Ireland just that it's not the time for a referendum

Putting the rights of your countrymen who've laid down their lives for freedom to the side for your own financial gain. Sounds like an i'm alright Jack tory mentality to me Wolf of Parkhead.

A simpler way would be an all Ireland poll.

Economically speaking we could get massive investment up there over are Corporation Tax and would probably attract people from the other side especially with the UK talking about leaving the EU

I personally dont see a united Ireland as likely until the idea of a united Ireland can be sold to protestants. It looks to me that northern nationalism in Ireland is a little too ethnic/subcultural to attract protestants in any numbers. I think the nationalists would have to do what the SNP did which is drop almost any references to historical stuff and Gaelic language and sell it to the hard headed types on the basis of an economic model. Problem is it would take a number of years of this kind of modernisation and dropping of the cultural-ethnic-Gaelic-struggle type image to make progress. Otherwise you will end up waiting until the sectarian headcount puts catholics in the majority. I personally think you need to modernise. There is still an impression that Sinn Feinn is a tribal party and attracting prods to that is very very unlikely.

Its a completely different kind of situation so you cant say that. I can tell you now if you gave all 4.5+million people a vote on whether or not to let them in and tell them the financial implications of it on the existing Republic you're going to be busy telling people they are the equivalent of uniost no voters.

Then we would just win by a landslide and it would be to easy the north atm is officially a different country so hence the need for 2 all we need is 51% and it could happen I think now is the time as someone already said we just need to get lucky once they need to get lucky all the time

I think it would be the most democratic way to do it. Since the country never voted to become two separate entities in the first place. It actually voted for Independence from Britain at a landslide before being partitioned against the democratic will of the majority in 1919.

I would advocate an all Ireland poll personally.

What do you think the percentage for YES would be in a 26 county poll?
