Nobody wants to mention the Hanley thing because we dont want to use it as an excuse. Personally I thought both fouls merited a yellow card rather than a red. However it is possible that Scotland might have won with ten men so maybe it was better for our self esteem that he stayed on.

Any "Celtic fan" that was booing or giving abuse to McGeady is an embarrassment.

I can't reply properly due to the way you've answered my questions, but if this is the kind of logic we're using then I can't really argue! :56:

Why? Does being an Celtic player mean you can't boo them?

You're refusing to acknowledge that national identity is not a black and white issue. What I said there is what I've been arguing for ages with you, so I don't know why you've chosen now to say it's a laughable argument.

When you support a club with our background to boo someone for feeling more Irish than Scottish makes you a bit of moron in my opinion.

Were Scott Brown to put in a couple of meaty tackles on some of the Irish players I dont think I could bring myself to boo him. This does not even address the issue of Celtics heritage and the abuse McGeady got in many grounds around Ireland when playing for us. In fact the boos last night were a bit of an extension of this.

Brown put in a meaty challenge on someone early on and I found myself shouting something at him.. then I realised what I was doing and laughed at the idea. :smiley-laughing002:

Love you Broony, please take me back :46:

I don't doubt for a second that had a decent player who was born in Scotland, played for Rangers and decided to turn out for England because he had English grandparents and felt "more English" was playing against Scotland next week he would also get booed by the Scottish fans.

I doubt we'd see as many people on here leaping to his defence though.

In footballing & legal terms terms, it is. As far as football goes it's right there in the rule book.

I'm not debating this whatsoever, as I've already said.

You're trying to translate a situation that cannot be translated. Every situation like this is unique.

It's one thing for Scotland fans to boo and it's another for Celtic supporting Scotland fans to boo him or hurl abuse at him. They're an embarrassment.

Then what the * are we debating then?!? :smiley-laughing002:

Unique or not, such a situation would see a player booed.

tbh if I was at the game wearing my Celtic kilt an scotkand top, I would boo every irish player stokes included as I done in the past when McGeady was here with Spartak, (Henrik the only exception as it's Henrik ) as imo it's an opposition player and iam booing them

iam not booing him for feeling more irish than Scottish it's because he's playing against the team iam supporting be it scotland or celtic

Your scenario is for the Zombies many who would not boo said player. This is a Celtic forum so obviously the attitude people have toward Celtic players will be reversed if you use a hun as an example.

I would go so far as to say that had your example been born and reared in England nobody here would defend him being booed merely down to the fact he plays for our enemies.
