Was giving this thought earlier, what positions would you see each team comes out on top in?

    For me,

    Goalkeepers - Scotland
Defence - Too hard to pick
    Midfielders - Scotland
    Forwards - Ireland

Ireland edge the defence just on Coleman alone for me. The closest we have to that is Robertson and then the rest is average, as is the Irish defence.

I didn't just mean one individual player from that position. Yes Coleman is better than any Scottish fullback, but what about the rest?

Collectively from each overall position, what national team comes out on top?

I think the defence is a lot tighter than it looks. Take away Coleman and who's better than who?

Is O'Shea better than Martin? Is Wilson better than Hanley? Is Meyler better than Hutton? Is Ward better than Robertson? It's a 50/50 call for a lot of them.

I mean everybody is average in the two defenses, Robertson looks to be above average but there above average one is Coleman, whose * excellent. So would go for Ireland there but it's literally just a Seamus Coleman in it.

Scotland's central midfield is also significantly better for me.

Ireland's options for tomorrow - Darron Gibson, Jeff Hendrick and David Meyler.

Scotland's options for tomorrow - Scott Brown, James McArthur, James Morrison and Darren Fletcher.

I don't think there's much in attack either, Keane obviously edges it for Ireland but I'd take both Fletcher and Naismith over Long.

Attacking-midfield's an interesting one, because I'd say we have more depth in terms of number of good AMs, but McGeady and McCarthy (when played further up) are quality players - maybe better than any of the AMs we have. Snodgrass, Maloney and Morrison (when played there) do come near though. Thing is, if McGeady gets injured, who comes in? Walters and McLean are both good, but I'd say, beyond that, Ireland don't have a lot of options in the attacking-mid positions (as far as I'm aware).

It's a similar story with strikers. There are quite a few Scottish centre-forwards who are a solid 6/10 and up (Fletcher, McCormack, Rhodes, Griffiths, Chris Martin, Naismith), but none of them really compare to Keane, yet, when he's injured, there's only Stokes and Long in terms of quality back-up (again, as far as I know).

Ireland's strikers after Robbie Keane and Shane Long are:

Daryl Murphy, Anthony Stokes and David McGoldrick. Pretty dire indeed.

Mind you at least finally they seen sense and didn't call up Connor Sammon this time.

Wes Hoolahan is the best midfielder imo but he won't play.he's top player and think he would do a good job for Celtic I hope if he does play a bit he can show all the Scottish Celtic fans why we rate him so highly

I'd rather our cm's other than Brown, I think Hendrick, Gibson and Meyler are better than James McArthur, James Morrison and Fletcher (past it)

Soldiers Song at Celtic Park will be special tomorrow. Hopefully it's a decent game and not a * 1-0 or 1-1.

The Ireland player I'm most wary of in an attacking sense is Seamus Coleman. Hope Strachan has a plan to deal with him.
