It is ridiculous behaviour and an embarrassing problem. No person in their right mind would deny it is. It's makes me sad more than anything else.

But at the same time, being called a hun for being a passionate Scot isn't much fun either.

The position I'm in personally can make you feel ostracized to be honest. Thankfully the referendum has seen a massive surge in Scottish pride and it isn't so bad anymore.

I just think people who try and deny that there is an element of anti-Irish feeling in Scotland are idiots to be fair, as Student12 is trying to do.

I urge all such people to purchase an Ireland top and walk down Duke Street on the 12th July.

Of course there is. It's difficult to see there being any change any time soon. We can be such a backward country. It's a lack of education.

But at the same time, those who are making out the Tartan Army are filled with sectarian bigots these days are talking * as well.

Show me where I've said this.

Scotland is not full of Huns that despise Ireland - like just about every Irish person on this thread is making it out to be.

Why do you always resort to insults in debates? You've now called me a "* *" and an "idiot" in this thread.

Agreed, the Tartan Army is mostly full of drunk annoying teuchtars :icon_mrgreen:

There's different types of Scotland fans in my opinion, there's true passionate supporters like yourself and the Tartan Army and then there's ones like me who do support them, do watch every game but aren't as attached to the fan base itself.

It's the second type of supporters that are more likely to have that bigoted attitude these days. 20/30 years ago it was different, not noe.

    Then what is your point?

Because you were acting like one.

That Scotland isn't full of bigots that despise the Irish, and McGeady and McCarthy aren't only getting booed is because they chose Ireland - that is my point.

Why? Because I disagreed with you? Jesus, get a grip. Calling people "* *" on the internet because they have a different view to you.

Really? Just about every Irish person on this thread stand side by side with Scots when they support Celtic. I dont think generalising an entire ethnic group is the way to go here

    Guilty :smiley-laughing002:

Aye I'd agree with the rest of it. I can only defend the ones I see at games or whatever (there is no way anyone would get away with anything sectarian/racist these days at Hampden, 100%... the whole of Ibrox were chanting Broonys name last month). I've no doubt however there are plenty sitting at home or in the pub shouting '* *' at the tv. At least we've managed to confine their comments to their homes/pubs/messageboards. I don't believe it will ever go away unfortunately.

You should not feel guilty about being a drunk. You are not guilty of being sober.

Scotland contains bigots that despise the Irish and you have admitted as such

It's not your differing viewpoint that means you were acting as such and you know it, it was you delibrately ignoring the context of conversation and acting like a smart * that did that.

Republic of Ireland warn of crowd trouble at Celtic Park

    Tuesday 11 November 2014

JOHN DELANEY, the chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland, has launched a renewed attack on his Scottish counterparts amid claims there is now a real danger of trouble at Friday's Euro 2016 qualifying match at Celtic Park.

John Delaney says there is sure to be 'tension in the air' on Friday night

Delaney has reopened old wounds over the 3200 tickets allocated to Irish supporters - in line with competition regulations guaranteeing a minimum five per cent - by stating there is sure to be "tension in the air" come kick-off.

The former Republic of Ireland manager, Johnny Giles, has also stated that the Hun Football Association will have to be held responsible for any violence within the stadium as a result of his country's fans gaining entry to areas reserved for home supporters.

"The mannerly, and commonsense, thing to have done would have been to give us 7,000 or 8,000 tickets and allow us to allocate them to Irish supporters in the one section," said Delaney in an interview with Radio Kerry.

"It would also be the safest thing to do. I have to make that point.

"Scotland are playing well. This is a derby game. It's a Friday night in Glasgow and there'll be tension in the air.

"To have pockets of Irish fans stuck in Scottish areas is not the correct thing to do.

"In my 10 years as chief executive, no association has treated us as badly as the Huns have done on this particular occasion.

"The Hun Football Association has really acted unprofessionally here with us.

"They only gave us five per cent of the allocation, telling us the game was sold out when it's not.

"It means that we're not able to award tickets to hardcore supporters that we would love to accommodate."

Aiden McGeady and James McCarthy, should he recover from a hamstring complaint, are likely to be booed by the Tartan Army as a result of choosing the Republic of Ireland over Scotland earlier in their careers.

Giles, who served as player-manager for the Republic between 1973 and 1980 and now works as a television pundit, fears that rival supporters sitting together is a recipe for disaster and insists the HFA will have to carry the can in the event of any major disorder.

"Anything could happen during the match," he said. "If there is trouble on the night, they will be to blame and they'll have to pay the price for that.

"I can't understand why the HFA is doing this. Their fans will have to come over here.

"If the FAI behaved in the same way, the Scottish fans wouldn't get a fair deal either. With Irish fans in the Scottish sections, you just don't know what could happen.

Every country in the world contains bigots. Scotlands are emphasised through such groups like the orange order. It's made out as a bigger issue than it is.

The worst huns don't go to Scotland games. They refuse to stand next to fans of other clubs. They would rather wear England tops. The Tartan Army are not remotely sectarian. People are just basing their opinions on what it was like 30 years ago. That is irrelevent. Times have changed.

Because other countries have problems does not diminish ours and I entirely disagree that it isn't a big issue or one to be belittled (as I think you are doing).

Where have I said that the Tartan Army are sectarian? I said the exact opposite.

    Because
    1 Nobody knows about him
    2 He is English
Why have you such a hard on for this guy?

Edit: The fact you need to post a link to this guys wiki page might give a clue why nobody apart from yourself want to talk about him
