You can't have it both ways though can you?

Either you agree with people deciding for themselves or you don't.

Of course it is, but that's football. much in the same way as we moan like * about Islam Feruz doing the dirty on us and * off to Chelsea, but don't have any issues when a player does the same to a smaller club and then joins us.

Religious reasons lol I bet neither of them go to church and believe in the nonsense.

    Better saying 'perceived religion'.

That's what it looks like from here mate. The debate this has even caused, and the likes of Gordon McQueen, shows that it is still a much larger problem than people would like to admit.

I actually think it is the vast, vast majority who will be angry for footballing reasons. By your logic they'd be getting abused if they played for Scotland as well which I just can't envisage.

There is no doubt there are morons within our society with anti-irish sentiments but I think people would be just as * off if McCarthy and mcgeady had chosen to play for England or Wales due to ancestral connections.

I never saw and sectarian bigotry coming from McQueen.

Hmm, I'm not really sure you can compare this to club football. The argument here is really that both McGeady & McCarthy should be playing for Scotland because that is the country they were born in. Not my view personally, but that is what is being argued. Can you compare that with Islam Feruz moving from Celtic to Chelsea, I don't think you can really.

Well, no? Because they would identify as Scottish, not Irish or English.

And if you try and argue there's not an anti-English sentiment in this country a lot of the time then I'm done with this conversation :56:

It's the underlying tone for me, the hypocritical justification at the start. It's the same sort of view that had people saying well bombs in the post to Neil Lennon is terrible but he brings it on himself.

You may disagree but I've encountered that attitude more times than I care to think.

No great surprise to see you joining another debate on the side arguing against an individuals right to choose and freedom of expression.

The hypocrisy on display is the same though. We're happy to cheer on players who we sign from smaller clubs for * all when they've done the work to turn him into the player he is, yet lose the rag when someone like Feruz displays the same lack of loyalty.

The point is, football fans are hypocritical. It's how it is. If one of our players dives for a penalty, we grudgingly condemn him for it (if at all), but if the opposition do the same we go * mental.

    That's how it works.

I don't think anyone on here will be booing them for anything other than footballing reasons, if they boo at all, but the fact is, there will be people who will be singling them out for reasons outwith football. Do you think that when they were given dogs abuse when they played in Scotland before, it was all for footballing reasons?

You seem to be the one inciting violence on McGeady mate.
