Yeah imo his case is even worse. Completely bizarre that he decided to turn his back on his country.

 

This doesn't explain why McCarthy was booed as a young boy playing for Hamilton Accies.

The chance of Bob Wilson playing for England when Banks, Shilton and Clemence were available was exactly zero.

 

His talent was pretty clear early on, and you know that.

 

Nail on the head. I still think sometimes when watching Scotland how great we could be with those two guys in the team. But I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

 

That's not really true though is it? McGeady had played for Scotland u-13s and only red tape stopped him from playing as a 15 year old. The Irish set up didn't have this red tape, As his career progressed at Celtic he'd have been constantly picked for the u-19s, u-21s and on to the senior team, no doubt about it.

McQueen actually says he hates McGeady and McCarthy.

I don't see how people can deny he's inciting hatred with these comments.

Tbh if I was a really good footballer I wouldn't even want to get involved in the Ireland team. celtic or Dublin are the only teams I'd play for and if I couldn't play for either I wouldn't play for any teams at all wouldn't care how much money I could earn

Then why did the HFA mess him around?

Aiden was overlooked by the HFA until he was around 17 years old, due to some stupid rule about only picking youth players that played for their schools.

The HFA must take the blame for messing him around.

Well that's not what it says on his wiki page. Scotland named McGeady in an u-16 squad after the issue had been cleared up. He decided to reject playing for Scotland because he liked the Irish set up.

If he'd decided to wait until he was the grand old age of 15 and accepted the chance to play for his country, this would be a non issue and he could easily have well upwards of 50 caps for Scotland.

 

He's ethically German where he was born was given to Poland after ww2 I'm sure

 

It was unnecessary. Racial hatred is a bit strong though.

got to agree with jungo.
you should play for the country you were born in, end off. this being able to play for a country which one or both your grand parents wee born in seems stupid. and your now getting the ridiculous rule being applied that if you stay in a country for a certain time then you can be eligible to play for that country. but until someone in FIFA inherits some common sence then rules are rules I suppose.
