Watched the green and whitewash DVD today again. 6 wins on the trot against the filth. Watching the Kings movement off the ball was a joy. What a * player. When he went up for headers he seemed to defy gravity. Seville final I still swear he was in the air for about 5 seconds, when he scored that header!:smiley-laughing002:

Would have to be King of Kings, Henrik Larsson.

    I'm not picky.
Totally agree. Not the tallest player either, but his heading was superb. It wasn't so much him rising up to get to the balls either, but the placement of his headers as well. The 5th goal I think it was as well in the Demolition Derby (Larsson's 2nd in that game) was sheer class also.

Lethal on the ground and in the air.

The guy was a phenomenon, the fact is he wasn't the fastest and he wasn't the tallest makes it even more special for me,he was one of the most intelligent players I ever saw..

He seemed quick because he Sussed things early, was first off the mark..
Whether it was onto a back pass,a one two,he was just a master at being in the right place at the right time, and being deadly in front of goal as we all know..
He was also great at taking defenders into uncomfortable territory and leaving space for runners like Stan, thommo, lubo etc..
And as for the points about him aerially, the timing of his jumps again were second to none and the power and accuracy he was able to get most of the time were just class..

    We really were blessed..

When you think back to that team with the likes of Larsson, Lubo, Sutton, Hartson, Petrov, Lennon, Lambert, Mjallby etc, we could have won the * Champions League. It really was ridiculous bad luck that we never got to the quarters or even the semis of the CL throughout O'Neill's reign.

That squad circa 2001/2002 had absolutely everything.

We could and should have acchievd more in Europe during that spell with the squad all at its peak..

I put it down to really bad luck and terrible refereeing decisions on the road :86:
That team really was good enough and did beat the best of the best in Europe at the time..

If only we'd invested in the team after Seville and by that I mean a couple of top class players, I really believe we could've done something in europe.

Couldn't agree with you more. Look back at those games Shane and take a look at the passing. The speed and sharpness is phenomenal.

Put Boruc or Forster in that team and they'd have a great shot at the Quarter-Finals.

Nice video of every one of his goals in the hoops.

Frightening how good he was. Getting emotional sitting here with a couple of stellas watching him do what he did best.

I've seen the video, it's tremendous.

The amount of headers he scored is phenomenal, amazing hang time.

Haha cheers Sean. The curse of Stella.

Was going to say the same thing. Forgot how frighteningly good he was in the air.

Will always remember that diving header he scored for Sweden (against Bulgaria at Euro 2004 perhaps?). I'm sure the way he flew through the air defied physics.

He scored one against DU in the SC semi final that defied belief...

Reminded me so much of Frank McGarvey's in the 85 Cup final against the same team funnily enough.

    Frank's was better imo...

    2.45 in the video.

He was just as lethal with his head as he was with his 2 feet one of the best all round finishers I have ever had the pleasure of seeing :)
