Celtic are facing another anxious race against the clock tonight to have Manchester City striker John Guidetti cleared to play in this season’s Europa League.

Scotland’s champions are still confident of landing the 22-year-old striker despite appearing to have missed the deadline to complete his loan deal on Monday night. Recap all the deadline day news here.

But now they have just a few hours left to cut through reels of red tape in time to have Guidetti registered for their Group D clashes with Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb and Astra before UEFA’s 11pm shut-off.

Record Sport can reveal SPFL bosses have today rubber-stamped Guidetti’s transfer, after granting Celtic an extension to their own 11pm deadline on transfer deadline night.

But, although Guidetti’s switch has now been given domestic clearance, the situation is further complicated by the fact that Celtic and Manchester City failed to have the deal completed in time to beat a midnight international deadline.

The SFA must now argue Celtic’s case at FIFA and, although they have a strong case, it’s not clear if the move will be rubber-stamped in time to add Guidetti’s name to Ronny Deila’s 25 man Euro squad.

An insider said: “Celtic and Manchester City began uploading the relevant information before midnight on Monday on FIFA’s online Transfer Matching System. It was not completed until after midnight and so an automated exception warning was received. But the very fact that the process was started before midnight should mean Guidetti’s move will eventually be approved.

“The problem now, however, is that it’s far form clear that this process will be concluded in time for the player to be included in Deila’s final squad for the Europa League, as this must be submitted to UEFA before 11pm tonight.

“It’s a frustrating situation for Celtic and for Guidetti but both parties want to press ahead with the loan deal regardless of how things turn out tonight.”

Sounds like that to me, wants to be here and do well, if the reports of him wanting city to release him to sign permanently are true that only enhances the feelgood factor a player like him would bring and why it's a must that we don't miss out on a player with quality and with a point to prove and a position to claim as his own..
