This point has been hinted at by a few other posters and it's a fair one. As it stands however the Board are hoping for a sort of messiah figure who can turn no signings and deadwood into gold. That's what they believe Deila did at Strømsgodset, and that's what they believe he can do here.

He won't get investment. His whole appointment was predicated on him not having it.

    Good point.

Although it turns out that Lawell hadn't actually got onto the right people. Turns out this was the player.

Seemingly he has an 'Efe' passport.

I would use Denayer as a right back for the time being. He doesn't have to attack just tell him to stand there and break anyone who runs at him. Then start to form partnership between Vrigil and O'Connal.

I'd add Robertson and Scott Arfield to that as well.

Arfield has turned into a great player with Burnley IMO.

I would still rather go with Denayer and O'Connell for the rest of the season than have a guy who clearly thinks he is too good to be here despite that fact that he was an unknown before we signed him and he has only been here for 12 months !

Take the money for him now. O'Connell is promising but he will not develop into a better player without regular first team football. Now is the time to do it.

And IF Denayer is only a loan (is anything concrete in football ?) then use the VVD money to buy a replacement for next season.

I actually wondered if he'd be worth a shot at left-back. Izzy could do with a few weeks on the sidelines and Mulgrew has been worse than Izzy.

You heard it here first. Apparently Sir Pete is pulling out all the stops to bring in an experienced, ex-international striker.
