Juarez just went out drinking too much. I heard stories of him being sick at training a couple of times, obviously hungover at training.

Must have just struggled to adapt to Scotland, didnt seem the smartest person about and probably never had a clue what people were saying to him etc

As far as I am led to believe the signings are done by committee so Park wouldn't solely responsible. ? He identify s the players and I think he has partial say on who comes in.

Maybe. Although standing on BT Sports and pointing out that none of Celtic's strikers are any use in the air, or up to playing Champions League football, is probably an easier job than actually identifying strikers who could sign for us and score plenty of goals. I assume scouting is a bit like coaching, a specialised field. Sutton might not be very good at it.

    I'm not picky.
I personally think that if he is to get any blame it should really be minimal. He's highlighting potential signings but it's the Club that make the decision to sign them. It may be on his recommendation, but if any managers/boards take a player on SOLELY on the recommendation of their scouts without watching the players themselves then there is something wrong.

I think the blame lies much more with the manager/board taking on these guff players than the scouts.

    We paid £4m for Juarez.

Exactly, which is why I don't think he should get much blame as the Club don't have to go with his suggestion.

That's a bit stupid , why have a head of scouting , if the club is not going to pay any attention to him . I am not saying he has done much wrong as its impossible to know how a prospective player will react at a new club , probably in a new country .

I didn't say for the Club not to pay attention to him. His job is to highlight potential signings as we all know, but it doesn't mean the Club has to go along with everyone he recommends. This is why I lay very little blame on him for any duff signings as he may highlight a player that seems to be already decent enough (or one that has potential) but the management team still needs to have a good look at the player as well before taking that step of signing him.

In light of recent events I felt this thread may be worth looking at again, especially since the manager and the board seem to be getting it in the neck.

I agree i think the scouting department should take a lot of blame, the calibre of players we have signed recently has been very very poor.

Its harsh to blame one man- its a scouting team a network of them all over europe. I think for the most part the team has done well but it has been hit or miss. I would say though the money we have received on transfers has been impressive

We seem to have no problem finding gems in goal, defence and midfield.

Whoever is tasked with scouting strikers needs their baws toed right oot the door though.

Scouts do not decide who we sign and no one will convice me its the board either.
Managers sign and build the team...the buck stops with them for any player failings.

Is scouting really as hard as made out?

I mean seriously, I'm not devaluing the guy's work or anything, but there were a few players that we came up against in those qualifiers alone that could probably have improved us, and we'd have been able to sign them for peanuts too.

Rosenberg for a start. He's undoubtedly more of a finished article than Ciftci. He would do a job for us domestically and probably in Europe.

Doesn't fit the model though, the board have obviously set up the plan for Park to find young guys with potential to be sold on for profit in future instead of getting exactly what the team needs, mix of experienced and young players.
