I don't see that making the last 16 in the Champions League really makes a big enough financial difference that we would now extend the south stand because of that.
But I would love for us to do that and bring the stadium all in line with a capacity in the 70/75,000 range. No question we would not sell it out every week in the spl. But we easily would for big games, games against the huns and European games and would I think would tack another 5,000 at least onto our overall average attendance which bottom line is a bit of extra money in the bank. It also would further enhance our stadium over eyepox which would be a nice bonus:celt_2:

Upgrading the main stand facilities such as dressing rooms etc should see us get 5* stadium status.

Why would we add more seats to a stadum that is already embarassing to sit in on match days because of the amount of empty seats

Barcelona, Madrid, Milan and Juventus don't sell out every week either. But it would allow tickets to be more easily available for the big games.

But would that lead to less season ticket holders as people would be less worried about getting a ticket for the big games?

Because overall we could increase our average attendance and thus bring more revenue into the club. So what if there are some empty seats at spl games the atmosphere isn't up to much for most of those games anyway. Given our lack of tv money due to playing in the spl this is one way we can bring in some decent extra revenue. Plus on game day in big spl matches, games against the huns big European nights we now would have a extra 10/15,000 Celts making an even more intimidating atmosphere which can only help us in the bigger games.

How would we increase our average attendance apart from the old firm i doubt nay other spl game would sell out , and if we do not get into Europe we could go a whole season without selling out.

i agree davie was there on tuesday nite and the aberdeen game and the place was half empty but at the shaktar game it was as ussual chalk a blok, we need more fans showing their commitment every week not just the big games but all the games.
There is plenty more to be spent on player's 1st b4 we start talking a 4th teir, come back to reality.
In reality anyway we dont need any more building at parkhead just now, just let strach do the building on the pitch ffs.

If we didn't get into Europe with our current stadium our attendance would drop as well. Just like in any season if you don't do well your average attendance is going to drop. On the other side if you do well there will be a few other big spl games which would have big attendances as well as the games against the huns and big European games. All it takes is for an extra few games selling out to increase attendance and like anything the better we do the higher our average.

I have been thinking that every time talk has come up about the Glasgow city council helping with costs of expanding Celtic Park. I can see them giving us money but only as long as the huns got just as much if not more. Would love to be wrong on this one though.

I remember seeing somethin in the papers about it a while back , think this was it :

    >A secret meeting between The Scottish Executive, Glasgow City Council, The Commonwealth Games Committee and corporate institutions took place in London’s Claridges Hotel to discuss the expansion of Celtic Park to 80,000. Work to be completed in time for the games and to coincide with the opening of a new underground rail link.

Planning permission will be a formality and new regulations will be put in place by the Scottish Executive to circumvent any legal challenge that may arise due to the fact that a section of the Main Stand is at this point listed.

Celtic Football Club will not have to finance any of the expansion plans as funding will come from the public purse and corporate finance. It is understood that a leading Wall St investment broker will fund 60% of the whole project in exchange for the naming rights to Celtic Park, Celtic’s current sponsors NIKE will also play a major role.

It is estimated that CFC will make over £150,000,000 on the Naming Rights over 10 years, while increasing the number of season tickets available from 53,000 to 69,000.

At present it is believed to be Goldmann Sachs and Delta Airlines that are in competition for the naming rights

Dermot Desmond and Brian Quinn of Celtic are believed to have instigated proceedings as far back as October 2006<

    Who knows

Cant see it happening at all. Cant fill it at the minute on a saturday. Would be no point in expanding it for 2 old firms at parkhead a year and for european nights.

Just had a look thrugh this thread.

How can they not fill CP on a normal Sat? The tickets are all taken by season ticket holders. If they dont turn up then Celtic cant send the young team round to drag every1 to the game.

And earlier it was said that the council wouldnt give Celtic money without giving to the huns, where the council not going to get involved in some respects in the huns failed casino bid? Didnt see anything bout Celtic getting an equal amount of mondo! The council is not a parent trying to dish out equal luv to its kids.

Fully believe the dude that says about the meetings are ongoing, y wouldnt they? Also there was far too much talk of this story without any sort of derisory put down from the council, government or Celtic.

Great if the huns were paying their Council Tax to put a few new seats in Paradise
