Exactly. In Glasgow people call it the chinkies.

Don't worry though you're a racist, Jinky says so .

I'm Glaswegian and I don't use the term 'chinky', because you see, it is a racist word.

Your defence of the use of said word is risible.
    :smiley-laughing002:

Example of racist usage below. Pwned.:poster_oo :86:

    Apparently so.
Which is very odd when you think about it.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
This thread is absolutely * hilarious now, as an aside.

To be honest, i have worked with individuals of african and asian origins for the best part of a decade now, and encountered "racism" and also given it back. And it has been banter - simple as that. Neither side has taken any offence at all. So there is a time and a place - Mackay totally * up in both those categories.

However, I do think that a widespread castigation of people who dare to phone for a chow mein and refer to it as "getting a chinky in" is probably taking it a bit too far. Folk can take offence if they wish - I totally respect that. Personally speaking, I don't have a massive issue with it, although it remains outdated without doubt. However, not everyone using that word, as an example, does so as some form of abhorrent racist - it is second nature to many, who don't even think about the word having a derogatory connotation. As such, it's all in the education, and generationally speaking I think usage is being diluted - which is great.

But let's not all pretend to be pillars of virtue; I can guarantee the majority in here have been in the pub and heard at least partial racism and said * all about it. Nor, likely, given it a second thought.

I take it you find this to be completely racist and not one bit funny:

At the end of the day, this could be blatent racism covered under the umbrella of comedy, no?
    How dare they!!!

I'm well aware that many folk phone a ' chinkie ' or go to the ' * 's' for a loaf and in no way shape or for do they mean it in a racist way, far from it....it's been used as a nickname for many years ....doesn't mean it should be accepted right enough .... Surely it's not difficult to say Chinese or the shop instead of using these terms.

That's my thoughts on it.....i wouldnt deem anyone a racist for using those terms unless I knew that were deliberately being racist....like one of my neighbours who did frequently use the term ' * ' whilst talking to me about Asian from his home town down south.
