Was he clearly talking about domestic football or have you made that assumption?

As I already said, Celtic play in Europe. If he found it too easy at Celtic it didn't show when we were in Europe.

No, it didn't but in 99% of the games he played for us both him and Van Dijk strolled through them.

That was the general opinion at the time.

How can anyone say it was "too easy" when he was a very suspect defender in Europe? He wasn't able to rise to the next level.

Lee Griffiths could play up front for Barca and probably score bags of goals against lower level La Liga opposition because of the chances they would create. But he isn't good enough against Real, Atletico and CL standard teams.

The analogy works the same way.

So Denayer slags the place where he managed to play over 40 times in a season and in his most natural/preferred centre back position.

Whilst has a 'great experience' with a club that he only played for 28 times in a season and was constantly out of his preferred position.

If zlatan moves to Ireland and plays for dundalk, no doubt scores 60+ goals, he shouldn't say he found it easy as he still had to play in Europe and the team got out out in the qualifiers?

How many goals were scored against us in those percentage of games when them two were "strolling" it?

Van Dijk also struggled for us in Europe. Doesn't mean he wasn't a class act though. I don't think Denayer should have said what he did, I think it was a daft comment to make, but it doesn't take away the fact he was a very good player for us, and more often than not, he and Van Dijk did stroll through games domestically. It's a comment that was unnecessary however.

17 goals conceded in 38 is pretty good going. I don't know how anyone can deny that Denayer and Virgil absolutely strolled it at times.

The league was too easy really. How many top strikers did he have to play against? None. The best was Adam Rooney who can't cut it down south.

Both Van Dijk and Denayer were far too good for the SPFL. I can guarantee you if you asked Virgil he'd give a similar answer to Denayer.

I still can't believe some folk are still so wound up about this.

I'm not wound up, just disappointed. I just wish ex players could be a bit more savvy when talking about Celtic.

He may have meant the league was easy but we still suffer from his quip.

It seems like such a simple thing to focus on the positives of your time somewhere, especially when the people paying your wages loved you.

I'm 99.99% sure he was talking about the standard of opposition he came up against each week and comparing it to the Turkish league where it's undoubtedly a lot stronger.

So easy he was part of the worst champions league and then Europa league qualifications we ever had. In fact it was downright embarrassing.

Regardless, he is not as good as he thinks he is or is being made out to be here.
Don't where this demigod status has come from.
