He can do a job on the right but he's a centre half.

Makes sense. He has everything needed to play there and he does lack a bit of height and physicality. We should go all out with a 5m bid this summer. He wont get a game for city.

He is a centre half, and a very good one at that as well. I actually think he was every bit as good as Van Dijk.

At some aspects he was, he'll never be as good at the physical side and Van Dijk's passing was better but he was up there and 4 years younger.

He's a centre back, his covering and reading of play is exceptional. Not the biggest but doesn't often get bullied.

Think he'd be really suited to somewhere like La Liga.

I think he had a better concentration level than Van Dijk, and read the game better. I think as an out and out defender, he was better than Van Dijk. His passing wasn't at the same level, but it was still very good for a centre half. First and foremost though, I want my centre half to be good defensively, and I think he was better in that department. Not saying Van Dijk was poor at that by any means by the way. I still think that if a team were buying Van Dijk, they should have looked to take both. They complimented each other very well. They would have only got better the longer the partnered each other.

Agree on your point about La Liga.

Not sure about that mate, Van Dijk was the sort of 'big brother', kept him in line and helped his concentration. The games we saw of Denayer without Van Dijk he had a tendency to dive in or wander a bit. That shows you the partnership though doesn't it.

He has the potential to be that player but he still needs an older word in his ear just now. His potential is frightening though.

100% agree on the partnership, they were telepathic at times, when to drop back, when to cover, when to attack, when to play the ball between themselves... everything they done as a partnership they done it together. Wasn't anything disjointed, last season Van Dijk got into double figures and was potent as * going forward. That's because he had licence to go forward and for the first time he had someone next to him he trusted.

I always felt you were more likely to get a lapse in concentration from Van Dijk other than Denayer. I think Denayer positioned himself better as well. I thought Van Dijk used to get caught wrong side too often, especially in Europe. I feel as though I'm running him into the ground here, which isn't the case, because he was absolutely superb for us, I just think Denayer was a better centre half than him. A bold statement I know :fear:

Could be an argument made there, I think a lot of what Denayer done was done well because of Van Dijk as well, which makes it hard to judge but what made them such a good partnership as well.

Which sounds like I'm running down Denayer, it's * hard to do this isn't it? :56:

I know it's only one game, but look at Denayer in the San Siro when Van Dijk was sent off. He was still excellent, and it was that game that earned him his first senior cap for Belgium if I remember correctly. Wilmots brought him on when they went down to 10 men away in Israel, and pointed out that game as the reason why. Although Van Dijk's red card in the San Siro was a joke, as the first booking was actually a good challenge, the second yellow highlighted his weakness of getting caught wrong side.

Obviously I'm not saying he's useless without Van Dijk mate, just thought he helped him out massively last season. He has weaknesses to his game likr any 19 year old, the partnership between them kicked him on.

I know what you're getting at but Van Dijk is the stronger defender between the two at the moment, if Denayer keeps progressing like he did last year it won't be long until he surpasses Van Dijk at the age he was when he was Denayers partner.

Would love to get him i fhe doesnt get the chances he deserves although looks like he is part of citys future plans

Jason Denayer left Manchester City this summer on a season-long loan to Galatasaray. The Turkish side are keen on buying him, according to Stuart Brennan at the Manchester Evening News. However, their valuation of £7 million is way below City’s.
Not that the Blues would want to sell anyway. With Martin Demichelis set to turn 35 this month and his performances on the decline, the plan is reportedly to bring Denayer back into the squad next season and let him battle for a starting berth with Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala.

Denayer, 20, was seen by many as being ready for the City first team this season after his successful loan period at Celtic in 2014/15. However, with Manuel Pellegrini preferring experience, he opted to offer Demichelis a one-year contract extension, with the young Belgian given a chance to taste top-level football in Turkey.
With hindsight, it was the wrong decision. Denayer, who is young, quick and powerful, would probably have been a better option than the ageing Demichelis who is evidently struggling with the intensity of Premier League football this season.
Denayer’s move to Galatasaray has been far less fruitful than his spell at Celtic Park. He has made just six league appearances, with three of them involving a period playing at right-back, with another four coming in the Champions League.
New Galatasaray coach Mustafa Denizli, who replaced Hamza Hamzaoglu last month, appears to like Denayer, having played him in the two games immediately after his appointment.
However, the defender is currently out injured having suffered a knee injury in a Champions League match with Atletico Madrid at the end of November.

Denayer has shown further evidence of his quality, though. His pace and power are clear, and his reading of the game continues to improve the more he plays first-team football. Like Mangala, he is blessed with natural attributes, but the hope at City is that Denayer can turn into a more intelligent footballer than the Frenchman is at the moment.
The signs are good. Two assists from right-back have shown he has the ability to contribute to the attacking side of the game—something he will look to develop further when he returns to the team—and his aerial ability also continues to get better.
Galatasaray sit third in the Super Lig table, six points off leaders Besiktas, and if Denayer can get himself fit, he could help them push towards the title in the second half of the season.
His real battle, though, is forcing his way into City’s plans during 2016/17. Demichelis is almost certain to have returned to his homeland by then, and Mangala, too, could be sacrificed if his concentration issues continue to undermine his performances.
Kompany’s fitness worries are another concern for the City staff, with the Belgian’s calf injuries an ongoing problem.

The ideal scenario next season would be for Komapany and Otamendi to be joined by Denayer and John Stones, with Mangala sacrificed, unless, of course, the former Porto man, 24, can improve drastically and begin fulfilling his obvious talent.
The signs are that Denayer can flourish at City. His time at Galatasaray has brought out some new attributes, namely adaptability and a willingness to get forward when the time is right.
City, who are desperate to start bringing their academy stars into the first team, have a centre-back whose potential is beginning to turn into genuine quality that’s good enough to enrich their squad.

Pellegrini is not daft and the move to send him out on loan to a top Turkish side was wise. The lad will be in Citys first 11 within the next season or so, no need to rush it. It will also give him some time to physically bulk up because he wasn't the biggest CB about, although size really doesn't attribute to skill level. City have a good player for the future.

But I do recall hearing he was in line to be their future RB, but definitely has the skill to play either position.
I wish we pushed the boat out further to retain his services, wishful thinking in the end.

Anyone know how he's getting on at Galatasaray? We're a much worse team without him.
