We offer a high-pressure environement and instill a winning mentality.

We offer European football, possibly in the Champions League proper. We might only play 12-14 games in Europe, with 8-10 against top opposition, but the level is much higher than the Championship and it gives young players invaluable experience, particularly playing at Celtic Park on one of those nights - nowhere else can offer that.

We're still one of the biggest clubs in football and when our support takes to a player, it's pretty special.

The Championship offers tougher opposition week to week but we shouldn't sell ourselves short.

I don't see how a player is going to learn more from playing against the likes of Daryl Murphy or Jordan Rhodes week in week out, than possibly against some of the best strikers in the world.

I think in terms of club culture, we're closer to Manchester City than any Championship side. Deila himself said that he learned a lot from Pellegrini. Denayer's settled here.

I could probably understand if they wanted to loan him out to a lower EPL club over us, he'd be tested all the time against good quality opposition. When it comes to the Championship - he might be tested more depending on who he would be playing with, but it's hardly quality opposition, that being said it still wouldn't be a bad league for a 20 year old centre half to be playing in every week. Doubt there are many at that age playing week in week out in the Premier league or championship.

Championship club vs Celtic, where you've got the possibility of playing atleast 6 massive European games, in one of the best atmospheres in Europe, winnings trophies, and developing under a young and clearly talented manager and coaching team. I'm clearly biased but I know what I would pick. Given Denayer has got a taste of what Celtic has to offer, I'd be fairly disappointed if he had the option and chose a Championship club over us.

 Man City this season have also had players out on loan to French, Dutch, Spanish and Italian sides. I seriously doubt they’ll be looking to have Denayer play a season in the English second tier. A move abroad seems far more sensible.

Unfortunately I doubt that anyone outside of Scotland and/or Norway really considers Deila to be a "top manager". I remember not that long ago we all thought Lennon was a "top manager" and he's now plying his trade at a less than top level club down south.

If City are looking to draft him into their first team in the coming years it only makes sense that he starts playing his football in England, be it with a lower end EPL side or an upper level Championship side.

Yeah, they are, but that doesn't mean they'll consider him a "top manager", does it? I mean, i doubt he'll be in the running to replace Pellegrini this summer if he's sacked.

To be fair, you can see the logic. The championship is better quality than much of the SPL. It is tough and will require steeliness. It's similar in style to the EPL, which is the ultimate end goal for him and maybe by Man City if they are keen to have him in the 1st team eventually.

No point in just loaning him out to foreign leagues, unless its to a 'big' team. He'l need to fully understand and integrate into British culture - Scotland was ideal in that sense.

And to the top coach/progressive coach comments. That is true but will Man City know this, infact will any of the EPL lot: managers, players or fans, will any of them know about Ronnie and his progressiveness? I doubt it.

*, this is a nation that thinks that ginger * - 'ginger mourinho', is progressive.

Yeah they obviously don't regard him that highly but they saw something in him, I can see them favouring him managers of other clubs playing at around the same level we are.

That doesn't detract from his ability. What constitutes a top manager is entirely subjective but he has a track record of developing young players as footballers and as people. A lot of managers in the Championship are outmoded.

I don't disagree, but at the end of the day there's not many Celtic fans who aren't going to claim Deila is a top manager (well, unless you count the fans who were claiming he was *, in over his head, didn't have a clue etc at the start of the season of course!), whilst a lot who aren't Celtic fans will look at him as unproven.

As far as Denayer goes, the choice will be both his and City's. There's every chance he may look at his year here and figure he's really gotten all he's going to out of Scottish football, and that a move to a contender in the Championship is next in his progression.

I would question the person that would recommend a Championship side over Celtic, everything considered.

By all accounts that is Vieira under City's current regime. I severely doubt he would send him to a 2nd tier English side when he has broken into the Belgian side at Celtic, is settled and is developing here and has the prospect of Champions League football as a first choice centre half.

In fact the more I type it the sillier it seems.

The thing is, can we afford to hang around and gamble on us reaching the group stages. I know exactly what you are saying, and I think Man City will perhaps be thinking along the same lines, but if Denayer goes, along with Van Dijk (very much a possibility), we will need replacements if we are to qualify for the CL group stages.

Probably be Ambrose and Van Dijk for the qualifiers, then we'll sell Virgil once they are over. Then Ambrose and Denayer for CL Group Stages if we reach them or Ambrose and Mulgrew in the EL Group Stages if we don't.

I'm just guessing, though.
