I think City would rather loan him to an English club next season. Which is a massive shame for us. Hopefully we can keep hold of Van Dijk, even if it is just until January. I have a feeling in a few years time we'll look back and realise what an incredible centre half pairing we had... :54:

I can see their point. In the Champioship he'll face a higher level of opponent than he would in our League. It's sad but it's true. The best strikers (non-Celtic) in this League - the likes of Adam Rooney, Nadir Cifcti etc - are poor compared to the strikers in the English Championship.

But playing in the Champions League would be great for his development. Maybe we could get him back on a 6 month loan and, if we don't progress in Europe beyond Christmas, he could then go and play in the Championship.

We may not even make it to the Champions league though, and if we fail he's spending another year playing against chumps in the SPFL.

Are you suggesting that we don't take the Daily Mail at its word and start speculating as if Denayer is as good as already a Charlton player next season?

I know Scottish football isn't the best but it'd be sad to see him playing for Brentford or Charlton. If he's not here, he should be going on loan to the likes of Porto or Benfica or to a lower to midtable English side, at least.

The strikers in the Championship are average as well, just look who's top scorer

Stop talking * Daily Mail (I hope)

I don't think City are that stupid, there's bound to be at least one PL club who would have him as a starter

Michael Dawson plays in that league ffs

Championship is afar better quality than SPL - FACT

We ain't guarenteed the Champions League - FACT

6 games in the Champions League or Europa League offer a different experience than what the SPL or Championship could offer but as a choice over SPL/Europe vs Championship, the Championship wins.

It breeds a sterner challenge week in week out.

The only benefit with us, is; we breed a winning mentality which only takes you so far, it doesn't always breed quality.

Denayer, Van Dijk et al, have learned all they will with us in our current climate.

It's a sad indication of where we are at but its a harsh truth that some on here would do well to accept. It will soften the blow when they leave.

There's only 1 facet to a side than the level of opposition they play.

Can any Championship side provide a 60k seat stadium every 2nd week, the ability to develop under a progressive Management team with the pressure to win twice a week along with the prospect of Champions League football. Also, specific to Denayer he is settled and has came on leaps and bounds at Celtic in an environment he is comfortable in and guaranteed first team football.

From a completely unbiased point of view it is easy to see why Celtic are as good an option than any side in England never mind a Championship one.

You've failed to take into account their development at a world class training facility under a top manager and coaching staff. You won't always find that in the Championship.

We offer a high-pressure environement and instill a winning mentality.

We offer European football, possibly in the Champions League proper. We might only play 12-14 games in Europe, with 8-10 against top opposition, but the level is much higher than the Championship and it gives young players invaluable experience, particularly playing at Celtic Park on one of those nights - nowhere else can offer that.

We're still one of the biggest clubs in football and when our support takes to a player, it's pretty special.

The Championship offers tougher opposition week to week but we shouldn't sell ourselves short.
