No point in us even getting attached to this guy, he won't be here next season.

The weak link in the City defence has been Kompany but because he is Kompany he is immune to criticism in the exact same way Joe Hart is.

City are in a position where they can make 30 million quid mistakes on guys like Mangala. If they think the centre of their defence is weak they can go and sign another 30 million pound player and hope he sorts it.

Denayer will be a regular City centre half IMO but there is absolutely no chance that will be next season. Which is hopefully good for Celtic.

You don't become a bad player overnight. Kompany not so long ago was arguably the best centre half in the world, playing beside Lescott it was at the time if I remember correctly. He has gone backwards playing beside Demichelis, and Mangala. When Demichelis plays, it forces Man City to play deeper, because any ball in behind him, and they are in big bother. Mangala has just looked utterly woeful in my opinion, and Porto must be laughing given what they paid for him. I think Kompany partnering Denayer would be their best option at the moment.

Denayer won't be here next season but this will only enhance our reputation of progressing guys like him.

A positive and correct way to look at it:50:
The second (at the moment) best club in England and possibly the richest in the world, and with Ronny's links. Can only see us and the city link working well in the future, whether we get Denayer back or not..

Also good to see Marc Wilmot's acknowledging Denayer in a Celtic jersey, again that works well for us..

Should we be looking to drop him from the team once the league is mathematically won,so we can give someone else a chance to stake a claim for a starting place next season, and also to getting a settled cb partnership for champs league qualifiers?

No surprise to hear Ronny saying he's trying to get him to stay, With 2 months of the season still to go. Be massive if we could do it, going in to the qualifiers..

I'd start denayer on Friday, look to wrap the game up then get him and Bitton off by 60 odd, if all's going swimmingly..

Denayer is a special talent but part of me hates loan moves with no option to buy, because it can be detrimental to the development of our own players.

Unless we can secure for another year, or do deals like this for a min of 2 yrs from the outset, I don't see how it is beneficial for the development of our side in the long term.

We are now faced with losing both our CBs in the summer, it's going to be very difficult to replace one of Virgil and Denayer never mind both.

However he deserves to keep his place even after the league is won and we will probably look back with pride that both developed at our club!

Whether he stays or goes, I wish him all the best. No point being greedy, he's a great player and deserves to be at whatever he views as a top club making great money.

Who were we going to develop? Eoghan O'Connell? No thanks. I'll take a player of Denayer's quality every day of the week.

Players of that quality are very rarely within our price range. If one is available on a permanent deal for the right price - like Virgil - that's always preferable.

I think replacing Denayer, if we need to, should be fairly straightforward, even if we can't afford a player of his quality in the Summer. I don't think City would hesitate to send Bossaerts up here, having seen Denayer's develipment this season.

While there are obvious negatives in developing someone else's player, it is a cheap, effective and risk-free method of getting a quality player in. Also, there is a chance they might stay or come back in the future if it doesn't work out at their parent club. It also highlights to other youths we might buy the benefit of coming to us to develop.

If a player's going to come in and effect the outcome of our season - which I think Denayer has - then it really doesn't bother me that they're going to go back to their parent club.

No one in their right mind would go back and say no to signing Denayer.

There is a lack of quality coming through the ranks and I don't rate O'Connell either, however Jason will be difficult to replace.

There is nothing guranteed with any signing, loan or permanent , I guess it's just going to be a sore one to take when we lose him.

Changing personnel every season to accommadate loan players is a flawed strategy IMO. No matter how good they are.
We need consistency especially in essential CB pairings. It took us a long time to get our defence right this season it can't be allowed to be the case every season.

I wouldn't make a habit of bringing in loan players when there's no option to buy but I think supplementing the side with one or two real standouts is a sound strategy.

I doubt we could have bought better than, or even anywhere close to, Denayer in the Summer but I don't think there was any need to bring in Tonev, Wakaso or Boerrigter. We'd all identified Mackay-Steven and Armstrong at Dundee United and Johnny Russell before them. I doubt Celtic thought Tonev or Wakaso would be that much better than them - they were just a cheaper and more risk averse option.
