I think an important thing to note about Mangala and Alves as someone said.

They were bought for a lot of money but did anyone else try to buy them?? IRRC only Man City tried to buy him. If he was as good as he is touted surely more teams would go for him.

Juventus wanted him as well I'm sure? Man United were also linked for a long time.

As far as I'm aware, Denayer has yet to play against a top centre forward yet. And * have got him being a world class centre half. We conceded 3 at home to Inter, 4 away to Zagreb and 3 at home to Salzburg.

Can't really fault him for the 3rd Inter goal at home and wasn't with Virgil away and Guarin scored an absolute worldy.

No teams in England play like us though, domestically or in Europe.

He would be up against much better players in England but he would also have much better protection, 90% of our games we dont even really play a defence. Today for example our tactics were basically...

    Gordon

    Denayer-----------------------Van Dijk

    -----------Bitton
    Brown--------
    Ambrose---------------------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------Izaguirre
    ------------------Johansen-------Armstrong
    GMS---------------------------------------
    Guidetti

And a lot of the time Van Dijk pushes forwrad in amongst Izzy/Johansen/Armstrong leaving Denayer around the halfway line himself. So he will be defending totally different in England where his full-back and partner will mostly always be beside him and he has the tools to do well, pace and skill and defends very well - no reason why he could play atleast 15 games for any of the top EPL teams next season.

He has enormous potential and he will go on to be a Man City centre half IMO but suggesting he is better than Demichelis and Mangala at the point is beyond ridiculous and makes me understand why some English fans laugh at us and our opinions at times.

Spot on. Fantastic talent. But he's raw as * and some of the comments are way over the top.

Watched him in both of our games against them obviously and watched him twice against Wolfsburg.

From evidence of those 4 games, another overrated talent. Greedy and cocky * when he has no right to be.

Regardless, a good player still and Denayer handled him, probably why I thought he was pish.

Didn't think Icardi looked any more promising than Fabio Borini did in Serie A

I know we have slim to no chance of buying him but I definitely think we can and should get him on loan for another season

    All about the collective
We must have the most prolific CB pairing in europe.

Both were strikers when they were younger , they still have that instinct and this helps explain why they are so comfortable on the ball as well.

I have never seen a CB pairing as quick and as attacking as these two , it is great to watch and it will be tremendously difficult to lose 1 never mind both.

He obviously means this season. I'm interested too; are they in fact the highest goalscoring centre half partnership in Europe so far this season?

The reason no team in England plays like us is because the level of competition is much higher across the board and there isn't as many mis-matches in terms of quality. Denayer wouldn't be able to stroll out from the back with the ball to 30 yards from goal without any pressure on him, in England.

Hey everyone. Not sure whether you remember me but I came on here earlier in the season. I'm a City fan and am keen to see how Denayer is doing. I've watched him a few times for you lot this season and have been impressed although without having much of a challenge. I was just wondering what the general impression is with you lot? I've read a bit of this thread and you seem happy with him. Where does he need to improve? What are his strengths? I'd be interested to know from you lot who have seen him regularly.

Every time he got a challenge he has risen to it. We played against Inter at San Siro and our other, more experienced centre half got a red card after 30 minutes and he just rose to the occasion no bother. He's composed, strong, comfortable on the ball. Maybe a centre half should ideally be just a little bit taller, but honestly I think we're returning him to you in great shape and much improved. Still needs more experience, but I've never seen a centre half so good at such a young age.
