I honestly think he'll come back for another year if we can offer him CL Group Stage football. I've not seen English football or Stoke City for years; but unless the bottom half of the EPL has improved a * ton since 2006, he'd not be warming their bench.

Maybe and to answer your above post aswell. You are right about if we sold him for any less than 5 id be raging. There is a difference though. If he was our player he would be one of our best but at City they might see a 5m bid for a youth player who has not and may never play a senior game as a good deal.
I dont see him breaking into their side. They wont give him game time that he needs because they just sign established players. If he goes back to city i can see him going into the reserves and eventually being released. That is just the reality at that club. I think they would accept 5m to be honest

Look, barring injury I personally think he'll make it at a Man City, Liverpool, Bayern, Barça, etc and you may or may not agree with that; what is unarguable is that he has already shown enough up here that we can (again barring serious injury) absolutely discount the idea that he's going to spend his career at the Norwich Cities of this world. From a purely business point of view he's worth about 3 times the the £5 million you are quoting.

I can't think of any better way of making this clear to you than the following: imagine for a second that he had come from our youth system and was our player and then Lawwell sold him for £5 million. You know that you, me and the whole forum would conclude that Lawwell had lost the plot and would be calling for him to go, and that's with the disadvantages we have compared to City when it comes to getting a good price for our players.

I agree with every word you said. Take the situation into account though. EPL teams are normally dismissive of what happens in Scotland so our rival suitors may not value him as highly as they should giving us an advantage.

As for him starting for Man City next year. It just wont happen. They will likely have a new manager with only results on his mind so will never build a team with a youth in it. Why take the risk when your job is on the line.

We have seen what he can do and what he will achieve in the game. If we let it go it may be too late, it may already be too late. But as i said i think City would do business at 5m. I think the hardest part would be to convince the player to sign

No, he won't be a starter at Man City for a few years yet, I agree; that doesn't affect his value from the point of view of their business. It's not impossible that City are so far up their own arses (certainly the case with a lot of EPL clubs) that they don't realise what they have. For that reason, I agree, a cheeky wee £8 million bid is well worth trying; but let's be honest, mate: it'd be more in hope than expectation (and if we actually got him for that price we'd have won a watch!). Everything I've read about City seems so much more professional than is usually the case down there. Honestly, it'd be ridiculous to blame Lawwell for not signing this kid.

I wouldnt blame him for not getting him but not trying is a different story. We should be moving mountains to make this happen. I am realistic and i have been watching Celtic for a long time so i know the craic, i know we wont get him. I think we could though if we showed some balls

That bit in bold is absolutely fair enough. Who knows, perhaps Lawwell is trying as we speak. I honestly think you're a wee bit too optimistic about our chances if we are trying (for the reasons I gave above) but we can agree to disagree on that.

If we got our finger out and spent some real * money then we could. I really hope Ronny breaks the CL last 16 hoodoo we have and does something special. When we get an exceptional team together that seems to be our glass ceiling.

While I can't see City selling for less than £15 million, he'd actually be an OK investment at that price. Be awfully risky for a club with our finances to spend £15 million on one investment, though. I'd be * myself every time he was on the same pitch as guys like Lasley. I just can't see it.

The least we will get for VVD is 10m. This can be spent on Danny Wilson and Denyer with change left over for wages.

This wont happen though instead of signing players that will go into the team we will take punts on 5-6 unknown players hoping to hit the jackpot. This has worked for us in the past and i am not against this policy but this summer we must resist this and go for the devil we know.

Mentioned it in the match thread. 14 goals and 8 assists from Denayer and Van Dijik this season. Fantastic contribution from both.

Yeah i dont want to sound too negative but these two are vital to the way we play. I fear the worst come the qualifiers with 2 new men in there to be honest.

I don't know if he's worth that much. I'd say £10mil max but I reckon we could get him for abour £8mil.

Again, I don't know what the finances are like, but if we sell Virgil for that I say we buy him with that money. The board won't do that though. They won't buy a player for over £4mil.

If City sell Denayer for the prices you two are quoting, I'll donate £20 to the charity of your choice.

Edit: obviously barring a career-threatening injury.

He's a good player with decent experience for his age. He read the game well and any time ive watched him he done well. At the same time though everytime i seen him he was playing in a deep defence so im not sure if he is fast which he would need to be to play for us
