    And who could blame him...

Yeah because being at Celtic and playing European football would be a * chore.

It's what? 6 games a season or something in Europe if were counting the proper games and not the qualifiers, sandwiched between games against your Inverness', Ross Countys, St Johnstones, Partick Thistles, Motherwells of this world etc. 6-8 games as opposed to a whole season near enough week in week out especially in the EPL would serve him far better for his development lets be honest.

Yes I realise this but we don't always need to be wearing green specs. I support Celtic as much as the next guy and want what's best for us always but as I said I call it as I see it and some folk imo are deluded to the reality of the league that we play in and just how much it holds us back from being one of the world super clubs. Having to put up with the likes of Stokes in our team as opposed to what we could potentially be with the EPL riches is soul destroying at times, as a club we deserve better and that's my take on it.

    Solid again today.

Just realised City also has Rekik out on loan to PSV for the second year running. Surely they can't need two young centre-backs next year? And they don't seem unwilling to lend players out to the same club for two years in a row...

I know I've said this before but I think it bears repeating:

I honestly think it depends on whether we qualify for the CL or not. It's obvious he's not yet good enough for Man City's first team and that he'd walk into any team in the bottom half of the EPL. From both his point of view and his club's, that's a better next step for his development than another year in Scotland. However, if we can offer him 6 CL games, that equation changes and we have a chance IMO.

Watching how composed on the ball he is, hard to believe this kid is only 19. He is gonna be a big talent by the time he is 24-25.

I think he's very ordinary & citeee should
be grateful if we develop him for another year.:50:

Not gonna get away with that surely.

We wouldn't have him for the qualifying stages then. I agree with you though, he won't get much game time and he is only 19. He has plenty of time to play at that level and this is a crucial part of his development.

City should know what is best for him.

Plus, people say he hasn't played against quality opposition this season. He has. He played twice against Inter Milan ffs. And Salzburg are good enough for mid-low table prem at the moment.

I also think that the solid and built partnership he has with van Dijk makes both him and van Dijk much better players.

We need a new CB to replace Van Dijk. It's imperative we keep Van Dijk until after the qualifiers. Then we let him go chase his EPL dream and ideally replace him by getting Denayer for another year with Ambrose staying as cover.

Salzburg are good enough for mid-low table in the Prem? :smiley-laughing002:

They Salzburg we played (with Alan and Kampl) would be pushing for top 4 in the premier league.

If we sell van Dijk for £8mil + I'd honestly use that money to buy Denayer. All of it if need be.

But are our board * going to spend £8 mil on a player even though we sell them for that.

    Aye okay.

Liverpool, Tottenham & Southampton would all absolutely rattle them if they didn't field their pansy Europa League teams and they are all outside the top 4.

No point derailing this thread but you're wrong. Liverpool were beaten by Besiktas and Spurs were knocked out by Fiorentina. Besiktas and Fiorentina are both of a similar standard to the Salburg side that faced us.

Post in the premier league thread if you want to argue against that..

People still licking the premier leagues rim. :56:

Please read my post. Prem teams, more often than not and definitely in Spurs' case this year, field much weaker sides in the Europa League. Spurs dropped Kane for that match. And Besiktas & Fiorentina are both much better sides than Salzburg.

I'm not one for * the prem, I'm just real. Salzburg would be mid table at best.

One of the best performances I've seen from a centre half tonight. Got a goal and an assist, was absolutely solid at the back, didn't put a foot wrong and was besting men like Kaka in his prime.

What a * player he is. I've got a feelingin 5/6 years we'll be saying I can't believe he used to play for us. Was absolutely outstanding, a geniune 10 from tonight.
