He's committed 12 fouls in 22 games and only has 2 yellow cards, last one was over 4 month ago. Van Dijk has commited double the amount of fouls of Denayer.

Can't go by stats all the time though. I mean he jumps with his hand all over the striker a lot and gives away freehits in dangerous positions.

lol I read that and thought "I cant even mind him fouling anybody" and looked up the stats.

For me i'd say he doesn't really even tackle anybody, most of the time he shuts a player down quickly and then waits for them to try and run past him and he just takes the ball off them easily.

Possibly his best attribute is his timing of the tackle, it's probably one of the best in our team, week to week..

Basically I disagree with your 'he gives away too many free kicks' comment..

I only mind in his first 2/3 games he used to get really close to the oppositions striker and he got turned a few times and outmuscled in the air but he wisened up quickly.... probably realised that they are all * and he can take the ball off them easily once he lets them control it when before he always tried to nick the ball or get it before them which he could probably do against fellow 18/19 year olds in youth games.

He doesn't rush in, his footballing brain and anticipating the player he's up against next move, is quality. He'll hold off and look like he's out of reach to intercept then just go in with speed and make the 'tackle'..

Yeah he's dosent do it as much, noticed him doing it on wed right enough but luckily Partick took a quick FK and *. Don't get my wrong I think he's a great player and would love him to stay for another season but would rather we signed a cb on a perm if possible.

OK, here's the thing: Van Dijk is as good as gone; but with Denayer it's not that simple. He's not yet good enough for City (in a few years he will be, barring serious injury); but he's learned a lot up here and would walk into many EPL teams already. Now from Denayer's point of view, where are you going to learn and develop most: another year in Scotland or playing in the 3rd or 4th best league in the world? It's a no brainer and no one can hold that against him.

What could change that is if we qualify for the CL. He's not yet good enough for any of England's CL teams and, at his age, it would be invaluable to pick up some CL experience before going on loan to an EPL team the season after.

I honestly expect no movement until after the CL qualifiers and that, if we fail, he'll join an EPL team on loan. If we qualify, I honestly expect him to join us for one more year.

I'd hope we start targeting at least one CB now then to get them in as soon as the window opens.

If we aren't, Lawwell and Deila are being massively incompetent because there's more chance of us signing fat Sally as first team coach than there is of Van Dijk staying another year.

He's Man City's player, and if they want him as a first team player one day it really does make sense to go:

-Loan with first team football, followed:
-Loan with first team football in the same league as Man City.

Our big hope is the Champions League.

I think we'll look back in 5 years and say 'he played for us' with Denayer.

I don't think he fully gets the credit he deserves. Aye folk think he's a good player but because he is almost flawless defensively he flies under the radar. He's also shown he has skill and technique on the rare occasion he's the one driving through midfield.

The fact he wants to play for City is a good thing, he wants to be the very best and he has all the potential in the World to fulfil that. If we manage to dangle the Champions League carrot for him and City next season and it works we have won a very expensive watch.

to operate on any other assumption that they are both gobe at years end is folly. Denayer isn't ours, and Van Dijk and his agent have already stated their intentions.
Now, if we accept that, and look at the rest of the team we see strength and depth everywhere, so I think we're gonna focus ONLY on our defence in summer. That gives Park and Kennedy a single mandate for summer, look to replacing our entire backline with young malleable players to set out our stall for a few years, and which are sellable for profits after that.
If we can do that early doors in the summer and get them gelled together for CL qualfiers we'd be a * dream next year... mouthwatering prospect!

Summer targets 2 central defenders has to be the priority and hopefully Virgil's fee will pay for both as he and Denser wont be here next season

Can be down to inexperience though.

From watching him he likes to get tight to the man and hassle him like *. Due to his short height(for a CB) he probably feels he has to compensate somehow.

I think most areas of his game, for a 19 year old, are ridiculously good. His timing of the challenge, as I have said in here before is impeccable.
