Hard to judge his performance last night. Watched it on a stream and honestly couldn't tell the difference between VVD and Denayer lol Same hair, same beard, similar height, same skin tone and of course the same fooking boots.

So, I thought Vigil Van Denayer played well, tonight. Some blamed Denayer for the goal, I think Lustig was snoozing. Other than that they handled everything well. We were much taller than them and won everything in the air.

In a few games time I think we will see how good this YOUNG boy is. He was caught out a few times wrong side of the ball last night but still done enough hustling to put the attacker off. He was up against a strong and experienced player in Tavares, who in the second half started to come deep trying to get on the ball.

Can only hope he performs, is greatful for the opportunity and enjoys playing in the CL and pushes for a move here.

All depends on money, he won't be getting into the city team next season no matter how he performs here. It depends if man city give him false hope of getting into the team at the end of this season. In all honesty, he's probably going to benefit moving to us for a few years a la Forster and then moving on.

Yes, he was clearly good enough to be playing.

Why wouldn't he get in the city set up next season? If he has a really good season then he may get an opportunity to push to become demichelis' replacement who is in the last year of his contract and will be 35 next year.

we might be lucky to get him for another season or man city might want to try him out in the championship next season

I would think Vincent Kompany and £32mil Eliaquim Mangala might just be the first choice pairing.

It's a squad game and every team needs at least 4 CH's. If he proves he's good enough he's got a chance. Personally I think he'll have another loan but only time will tell.

He's had dodgy moments in both his games but they are his first two games, we are also a team that gambles a lot at the back, by leaving ourselves wide open or try to pass the ball out even when under pressure and surrounded so it is a baptism of fire for him.

He is fast, a good tackler, good on the ball and very athletic.

His weakness' so far look like, he isnt that good in the air and he gets too tight to the striker he's playing against, in both his games he's stood right at the back of the striker and attempts to win the ball first time every time but a few times has been turned too easy. He should stand a bit off them and allow the striker to turn first as he has enough pace to match strikers so wouldnt be under any danger anyway.

Kompany from Man City id say does that too when I watch him, keeps tight to defenders and always tries to intercept balls to them right away and gets turned a lot and ends up fouling and getting booking for holding or pulling them back. He might have learned that from him but its not a good way to defend, especially if you are like them quick and theres no harm in allowing a striker to take the ball in.

Agree. I wasn't getting on at the lad just that he had a few dodgy moments, like you mentioned, getting to tight. He had hands on them a lot and the ref had a decision to make if Bohar hadn't scored.

Delighted to have him on board thought. Him and VD will be solid.

I wouldnt blame him for the goal, although as I mentioned the post above he gets too tight to players, if he stood 3/4 yards off him he'd probably have prevented it. But it was a number of things that led to it...

    1. The midfield would have shut down the player who played the pass quicker.
    2. Ideally McGregor would have been further back, which would have meant Lustig didnt have 2 men on him which would have freed him up to track the runner. Lustig was hesitant to follow him, knowing he'd be leaving that other guy free at the back, so the guy who ran could have cut the ball back for him to tap in.
    3. If the midfield were positioned better, Van Dijk could have been closer to Denayer. Van Dijk was out position as the midfield were too open and out of position.
    4. Denayer could have stood further off the striker giving him more options

Either of those things could have prevented the goal, probably in that order.

I cant mind how they got the ball either, if they stole it off us in midfield or if it was after a spell in possession, if they took it off us and done it quickly then theres really nothing we could have done as sometimes it just happens. But if they had the ball for a while then a lot of our players were out position.

I am impressed so far, for a guy who has only played 2 first team games in his short career it's been ideal. Still obviously has so much to learn, at times he is a bit tight to players and that could cause problems if he comes up against better players who can turn him easily. Not incredibly strong in the air due to his height but he will always put up a challenge which is the main thing and will probably win his fair share.

What I like about him most is that although he is clearly incredibly comfortable on the ball, he knows when to get rid of it. Something Ambrose needs to learn. His timing of the challenge seems to be excellent as well.

For a guy his age and total lack of experience, he looks brilliant.
