Maybe mad considering Celtic fans view Celtic as a far bigger club than Man City but the sad fact is a teenage reserve player for City is likely to be better than most of our first team, especially seeing as we are playing with absolutely no skill, fight or determination recently.

Despite his age he already seems stronger physically than Efe, and i'd hope won't be bullied as much, and he can't possibly be worse than Mulgrew.

As for replacing Van Dijk we all hope not but again, being realistic he's not liable to stay long. Infact I wouldn't be surprised if City know all about Virgil and have some little clause in this loan deal giving them 1st refusal on him next summer, possibly with us taking this Denayer kid permanently.

No one's saying he'll waltz in. Efe and Virgil are the only two centre-halves at the club and he'll provide cover first and foremost. They rarely miss a game though and we Mikael and Charlie can cover the positions well enough. Deila obviously thinks the boys good enough to push for a starting place or this deal would be a waste of time for all parties. The fact that he's been brought through one of the best academies in the world and seen as a future first team player at the English champions suggests that he's good enough to hold his own domestically at least.

That probably has to do with the £1bn plus that has been invested in Manchester City this decade alone. There's no shame in loaning in some of the hottest prospects in world football when the average annual salary for a City player is twice what our club brings in from winning the championship.

I think he will get plenty of game time.

Our new gaffer has already said that he has been brought here to play games and make an impact on the first team, and I get the impression that he is losing confidence(like alot of us) in Efe Ambrose one of our centre halfs who can be a bit loopy at times.

I like the look of him alot. He looks fast, composed, strong on the ball and has the ability to read the game. Very similar to our main man Virgil Van Dijk who could soon also be down south lining up against you lot.

The fact he is Belgian also fills me with confidence in his ability. They are continually producing fantastic young players who all seem to play with a maturity beyond their years. Golden generation for them right now.

Any thoughts on the other Belgian Matthias Bossaerts by the way? I have heard we also made enquiries about him as well as Denayer? Alot more 'raw' apparently.

I think if he does impress we can do a similar deal to Atletico and Courtios, He wont suddenly break into the City side just because he plays well up here for a season, so if he enjoys his time and we enjoy having him, could be another loan deal next year?

    Aye, why not?

Kompany, Mangala and Nastasić are going to be holding down the starting spots for a good couple of years at least. I'd imagine Demichelis will be replaced at some point as well. Could get a couple of years out of him if everyone's happy.

While we have some very promising lads in our EDS I don't think many are ready for the step up like Denayer. We do have a young Argentinian we have bought this summer who looks a very good CM but the word on the grapevine is he's already set to join up with Sunderland on loan until January before coming back to possibly feature in the first team when Lampard moves to America.

a couple of seasons ago he looked outstanding for the academy and started breaking into the EDS squad. Once he was moved to the EDS he's not stood out as much and last year played mainly at RB after previously playing most of his football at CB. He's still a good player but isn't as stand out as Denayer and your correct is much more raw. I'd be surprised if he ended up with you.

This guy will learn a lot about how a great defensive partnership works if VVD stays. Otherwise he'll learn how a club capitulates if he's paired with Ambrose.

Thanks for the replies guys it sounds like he'll get plenty of opportunities. The standard of reserve football in England us pretty poor so it will be interesting to see how he copes with the step up to competitive football. I'm confident he'll do well.

He does sound similar in style to VVD and one of his biggest attributes is how happy he is with the ball at his feet. He doesn't panic. He's also very strong for his age.

As for VVD we were linked with him abit at the start of the summer but I think it was just paper talk. I think we're now looking at a long term replacement for Demichelis whose contract expires this season. We have Kompany, Mangala, Rekik and Nastasic but there is alot of talk of Nastasic leaving to join juventus. I'd be pretty * off if it happens but that could be the opening Denayer needs to break into our first team.

By the sounds of things, Citizen Blue, I expect him to be getting a regular game. Deila was very supportive of Ambrose after his first half catastrophe against Legia in the away leg, but he must simply have been scared utterly shitless by what he saw.

Conversely, what would be the purpose in Citeh chucking a great prospect up here to train with the likes of Mulgrew as opposed to * Toure and Kompany?! This is a point I have made earlier in the thread already, admittedly.

Best answered - in my eyes - by "no point whatsoever."

As such, I think he is here to play, and will expect to receive a very healthy amount of game time.

Side note, I wasn't aware of Stromgodset's excellent relationship with you guys, historically. Bodes well for Celtic if the relationship can be formed between our 2 Clubs. I have no problem with quality loan signings, as oposed to squad fillers (see Berget.)

    Long may this continue.

PS - don't suppose Navas and Jovetic available on season loan are they :)

    Deila seems to think very highly of the lad, and he's basically admitted that there's not a chance in * he stays beyond his loan;

The bolded part says it all for me. Deila and Lawwell are making moves for players, but when you go above a certain level you run the risk of losing out to teams who can offer a more attractive deal, in the case of Jeff Louis it was Standard Liege coach Guy Luzon pretty much assuring him of first team football, which we weren't able to do.

It's worth noting that we offered more money than Standard did, yet the player knocked us back.

I'll be honest, if the likes of Louis and Denayer are the calibre of players we're moving for, in any way possible, then I'm more than happy with that.

I read in to it that the player decided Belgium was a better league to ply his trade, to be honest amigo? IE in terms of progression playing a better quality of football?

Maybe picked up on Deila's comments incorrectly when I read them earlier today.

Yeah, that could have figured into his decision as well, but I did read elsewhere that the Standard coach did personally reach out to the player to tell him that he would figure in their first team this season, which is something Deila couldn't do.

What do you think though? If that's the level of player we're looking at I'm quite happy with that.

I'm sorry but I can't buy into that, a lad who has never played a competitive first team game is worth 10 million quid.

Not so long ago our manager was saying it's pointless taken other teams players on loan to develop them to send them back and now this boy is worth 10 million without seeing him play for the side. :56:

I must admit his spin on this is fantastic.
