    I'm obviously not a member of the City management team, but I imagine the initial discussion went something like this;

City coach: Okay Jason, you've progressed well through the youth ranks and you've got all the makings of a 1st team player down the line.

Unfortunately, you're only 19 and we have Vincent Kompnay, and we've just signed Eliaquim Mangala for almost £45 million. Your participation here is going to be maybe a league cup game or two while you gain experience.

Denayer: Oh, that's fair enough I guess.

City coach: What we do have is an offer from Celtic to take you on loan for a season? They're a big club, are involved in the Champions League, play in front of big crowds every second week or so, and they have excellent training facilities there. Could be a chance for you to get some experience and for them to have cover in defence? What do you think?

Denayer: Yeah, that sounds like something that would benefit all parties. Sounds good.

That sounds about right, doesn't it?

    Me too.

    So far we've signed:

Craig Gordon - who hasn't played a game of competitive football for 2 years.

Jo Inge Berget - never really got much playing time at Cardiff as he just signed in January after playing a whole season in Norway, so I can't really judge him.

Aleksandar Tonev - who turned us down to sign for Aston Villa instead, where he completely flopped and is considered a joke by most of their fans.

And now Denayer; a teenager from a "big" English club on a season long loan.

Is it just me, or do these look like the transfers of a mid-table Championship side?

Sounds like a copy / paste from football manager!:smiley-laughing002:

On a differing note, little point in him moving unless he is getting game time, as Man City's coaching set-up / training facilities will certainly be no worse than ours, let's face facts. In addition, he is arguably more likely to glean more knowledge training with Kompany and Silva than he would Mulgrew. Just call me a cold-hearted cynic.....

As such, if I were Ambrose i'd be looking over my shoulder rather panic-stricken at present.

    A pretty apt description.

It looks like we have been playing fitba manager and you let go to many players and before you know it deadline is closing in and you need any * at all just to make up the numbers.

There's no future in us being a development club for EPL youngsters, but if the guy has quality and is ready to step up, he could be a useful signing for the season, provide some badly needed competition in defence at least. You can't find defenders like VVD going for a song every season, sometimes you got to grab what's available if the squad will benefit. I am reserving judgement til I've seen the lad. Hope he succeeds.

Our transfers so far have been a massive let down IMO fingers crossed they come good, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Now does this mean because we signed this young lad he was our last signing under the UEFA rules before the champions league tie or do we still have the 1 more signing option?

I'd say most Championship sides make better signings than this actually. How depressing.

That said I think our first team is better than a championship sides but definitely needs more investment than it's had so far.

And us if we can hold on to Van Dijk.

Hopefully this guy is a replacement for Ambrose. That guy gives me the fear.

Mangala deal has been going on for months and everyone knew it was going to happen, City were very vocal about strengthening that area of the pitch.

Boyata started in the community shield Match, was Denayer in the squad? Rekik made the provisional Dutch squad for the World Cup ahead of Van Djik and is very highly regarded. Richards has played at centre back a number of times for City.

If you think he was ahead of them in the pecking order then you've not got a clue.

I'm not saying the kid is a bad player list, just that folk are ripping the * thinking he was 4th choice at man city and such. Thankfully more and more fans are getting scunnered, and seeing through the board.

They've had a second golden opportunity and haven't done enough IMO.

    Probably VVD's replacement :smiley-laughing002:

I honestly don't get the direction we're taking at the moment. I've just had enough. If this was the only loan deal maybe id feel differently about it, but i just feel like every year now will be the same.

I wish the boy well, I really do but I wish we went and signed the young centre half from Dundee Utd since he has been playing first team football and looks a good prospect and he would be our player instead of sending him back to a parent club.

I think he could replace Ambrose to be honest, the guy strikes fear into the whole defence. We could put Jason with VVD at centre back and have the option of putting ambrose into midfield.

I'm absolutely terrified that this guy might be here to replace Van Dijk.

    :smiley-laughing002: Very true!

I can't believe we're moaning over the idea of signing (even for a year) a Belgian youth international who is on the books of the EPL champions! :56:
