The difference is if someone is signed or not to the club on a contract, versus someone who was sent off for violent conduct and is suspended.

They are two completely different things.

Don't try and make out like the rules are difficult to understand, they're not.

They're only open to debate if you're trying to bend them slightly.

Yeah that's right. If Celtic had won 4-0, it would've been 4-0. If we'd won 1-0 it would be 3-0.

As a side point, the rules make it 3-0 for a reason. It's designed to deliberately alter the tie in a scenario where a team has lost the first leg something like 4-1. Otherwise the rules would only make forfeit score would be 1-0 to Celtic. It's meant to knock the team at fault out.

Also I agree Legia should be punished for their comments about Celtic. You shouldn't be able to publicly comment about the other club involved. They should've appealed to Uefa, but left Celtic out of it.

As if CAS would have the nerve to say on Monday:

"Right, you broke the rules (inadvertently or not) which have been written in place for a reason. UEFA have imposed the correct punishment for such a breach of rules, yet you want us to reinstate you because you weren't aware of the rules to begin with. You want us to change the ties around today, 2 days before the Champions League and 3 days until the Europa League, when all teams will have been scouting their opponents all week and fans will have already booked their travels. Teams will also have booked their flights to each destination and you want us to inform Celtic that they have 2 days to get to Kazakhstan and to drop everything and make sure they get a flight there pronto. Also, by reinstating Legia into the Champions League we would therefore be giving you an easier tie than you should've had previously as you were an unseeded team, who should've been playing against the likes of Arsenal, Napoli etc. Aye, yees are in."

    Dream on Legia.

Surely Celtic will already be in Slovenia when this appeal is heard? Will we not fly out on Monday?

Is no one else worried about this?

And why do Celtic have to produce a written statement?!

So the player himself admitted to speaking with someone within the club, therefore he knew he hadn't been registered. That person mentioned a similar situation that had happened before. He then went and asked someone higher up about it. He was then put on the bench and brought on.

They thought, because they had the tie in the bag, nobody would bother.

It's the same punishment if he started the game, or if he comes in in the 84th minute. He still plays. Who's to say before the game, if this happens it has no reflection on the outcome of the game.

It's harsh for a reason, so that nobody tries to do it.

Well they blabber on about common sense, surely at this stage it would be common sense to just go ahead with UEFA's decision. And the CAS member stated that the appeal would rely on whether the punishment for fielding an inilegble player was indeed the one dished out by UEFA, which we know to be the truth, so we should be fine.

They were in the champions path just like us, only difference being we were seeded and they weren't. There was never any possibility of them playing a team like Arsenal or Napoli. And yes if Legia were reinstated they would be in a seeded spot it would be a similar situation to us taking Sion's spot in the Europa league even though we weren't a pot 4 team, seeing as Uefa has already done similar before I don't think it would be seen as a major issue.

It all depends how big of a financial penalty it would be. Legia isnt exactly the richest club out there so you are wrong.
Anyway, the EU law of proportionality, which, according to CAS, should be a basis of all rules in sports is clearly not in effect here. The penalty was to harsh compared to the crime and its circumstances. Whether it will be enough for a panel of judges, we will see.

And your logic doesnt work here. Lets say I took a 2$ candy from a store, so the owner, police, or whoever has the power to do so cuts both of my hands off. Trust me, I would feel that punishment and be annoyed by it. It doesnt mean its a good punishment though.....

What would happen if Legia won 4-0 in Poland then we won the home game 5-0 but Legia fielded a banned player in the second leg?

Would they have won 4-3 on aggregate? :smiley-laughing002:
