I've always thought he was decent since I first seen him, quick, good with both feet and a decent player, id have him in the squad - prefer him to McGregor, Commons, Berget and Boerrigter.

Also dont have a clue why people always mention he shoots too much, hes only hit 7 shots since he signed and 4 of them were in the one game.

Commons hit more shots in the home game against KR Reykjavik than Tonev has hit in his 9 appearances combined lol

Infact Commons hit 11 shots in the 2-1 home win over Aberdeen in September, almost double the shots Tonev has hit in 9 games.

    Commons 17 appearances 56 shots
    Tonev 9 appearances 7 shots

Commons can be trusted to shoot from distance on previous experience, Tonev doesn't.

For me Commons is no use any more, just constantly loses the ball and slows down play and he's obviously getting over the hill, he's never been the fittest and he's getting more sluggish. He's like Samaras in bad form when he's been playing this season. "Fucksake Commons" being the new "Fucksake Samaras".

Tonev I quite like, he's barely played but I like how he's direct, quick, good with both feet and can hit a decent cross and shot, he's the kind of player who might do well here.

Commons I feel may only be more reliable in the Sevco game than our other forwards, since he knows how it is and Sevco are pretty * so he'll be effective, if he's still here id start him in that game. But I dont want him starting any other games and id release him at the end of the season.

    Come on now.

Apart from that decent 10 minutes last night, he's looked terrible. Crossing has been woeful when he's played which is no use for a winger.

I dont think it has, a lot of people had judged him before he kicked a ball as a Villa reject who shoots too much - even so that people are saying he shoots to much despite him barely even hitting a shot so far - and those shots being quite good, he's not ballooned any shots or anything.

I wouldnt mind him getting a run in the team. Certainly have him starting before Berget, Commons or McGregor.

I agree with much of that and to be honest I wouldn't be overly concerned to see him move on at the end of the season, purely because he doesn't really have the tools to do what Ronny demands of him.

Prefering Tonev to him though, nah, not for me bud.

Tonev's a more exciting player to watch, can turn/beat players and run with the ball. Obviously we dont know a lot about him though since he has hardly played(only played 4 games worth of minuts) but i've never thought he was bad any time he has - ive always liked the look of him.

If we left out Stokes, Griffiths, Wakaso or Forrest and played Tonev, I honestly wouldnt bother. But if we left out one of them for McGregor or Commons id be :47:

I never seen him at all playing for Aston Villa though, maybe people who seen him several times for them thought he was *.

Tonev has done the square root of * all mate and shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Commons. This seasons Commons or any other seasons Commons.

He has barely played though as he was injured for 2 weeks when he signed then been suspended for about 2/3 games, if Lustig just signed this summer on loan, people would be hes done fuckall too when in reality we've barely seen either of them this season, same for Forrest.

If he started and played 3 full games in a row, and done nothing then fair enough.

    Agreed.

How can you say you prefer him to Commons then when you admit yourself there hasn't been enough time to form an opinion?

Cause ive already decided Commons shouldnt be getting a game :icon_mrgreen:

If Commons never played again and left in January I wouldnt be bothered, i'd wish him well and regard him as a good Celtic player over his time here but I think he's past it.

Same as Alan Thompson under Strachan, he had no pace or mobility and became a liability, same also happened to Paul Lambert under O'Neill were they just werent good enough any more and were being carried.

Thinking Commons shouldn't get a game should be a seperate issue over who is better.

As it happens I sadly agree with you that Commons doesn't suit this system but he still blows Tonev out the water.

I'd much rather see Tonev get a shot, rather than Commons.

You know what you're getting with Commons, he'll slow everything down, fail to control 50% of the passes he receives or he'll wait on the ball and get caught out. As ILTC said, he is turning into Sammy in terms of the number of times he completely * up an attack.

Tonev didn't impress me at the start of the season. He was great when he came on last night though. He's more deserving of a chance. At least he has pace and can beat a player. If he tones (no pun intended) down the shooting then we might have a player.

Would send Tonev back to his club. Pointless playing a guy who wont be in our team next season. And he looks useless when given the chance.

Tonev deserves a crack of the whip. I think he looked lively on his debut and he looked lively last night. A better option than McGregor and Commons at this moment in time.

I hope this boy comes good. He looks like he can be a decent player.

Obviously he's been held back with that racist tag over his head. That must * with your head big time.

    Good luck Tonev.

I thought he was great when I came on Thursday night, a couple of times he was nearly busting a lung to make 2 great runs but no one passed to him. I think he could be a good player if given the chance.

Played really well when he came off the bench on thursday. Is he on loan until January or until the end of the season?
