Just been reading a few threads on Facebook about this whole Tonev business. Lot of debate on what is considered 'racism' and what a 'racist remark' is.

This just shows there's a massive grey area about racism in general and with the griffiths incident coming up, is calling someone a refugee racist? Who * knows.

My thing with racism though, and how it's such a huge deal and delicate subject is this.. If Tonev was * off and the first thing that rolled out his mouth when he looked at Logan was to insult him for skin colour, is that as bad as if he looked at a ginger person and called him a ginger *? (I know people will be sure to call me a fool for this, and I am not condoning or sympathising with any racism) but both insults are based on a superficial appearance, both are things you are born with genetically, both are just heat of the moment insults. Why is insulting somebody including their skin colour illegal, but hair colour is not?

I understand if he called him a n***er that it's definitely racist, because of the connotations the word has, but is black * any worse than short * or ginger *?

My opinion, personally, is that I don't think he would just make up the story. That is just my opinion, that is usually what happens on forums, people post their opinions. As I said, he might well have misheard Tonev, but I just don't see why he would pluck this story from fresh air. What does he have to gain from it?

Was he just dancing to Rudi Skácel is a * refugee then? Perhaps he was actually just dancing to an ABBA song with earphones in, eh? :smiley-laughing002:

By the same token, what does tonev gain from saying it. Don't even know why we are debating this. If he said it he should be bundled back to villa and if not Logan should be taken to task. I suspect it may never be proven in which case those who appear to already found tonev guilty will have a dilemma.

I agree I am not condoning racism but in my mind calling somebody a 'black *' is no different than any other physical appearance '*' people just seem to see race worse than anything else for some reason

What does anyone think they can gain by saying racist remarks? It happens though.

I haven't condemned Tonev either at any point. That is why I said Logan might have misheard him. I don't think Logan would just make this up based on absolutely nothing though. He might well have picked Tonev up wrong, that is a possibility as well.

But it also happens that people falsely accuse people of doing these things to gain an advantage

You seriously can't make a distinction from something like 'ya ginger *', or 'ya big nosed *' and 'ya black *'?

You really can't understand why one would be more serious than the other?

What advantage does Logan gain from this? It might be a false accusation, as it has maybe been picked up wrong, but I just don't see why Logan would make up the story if nothing was said at all between the two players.

Having googled pictures of Logan he is definitely black, there is also a fair chance that he is also a *. So all Tonev has done is describe him succinctly and accurately. There was obviously more than one * on the aberdeen team on Saturday so Tonev needed another parameter to clearly define which * he was talking about. Clearly Logan was the only player which fell under the categories of both '*' and 'black' and therefor Tonev has used these two labels to address which player he had a problem with and cause as little confusion on the pitch as possible. For a guy whose first language isn't even English I think Tonev has done well in highlighting the player that he was annoyed at and in doing it in such quick and efficient manner made sure the other players on the park didn't go through unnecessary moments where they felt Tonev was aggrieved at them.

Worth pointing out I think when Denayer scores Logan starts going mental claiming for handball (and is the only one to do so). This wouldn't be the first case of a sore loser/drama queen playing the race card either. John Obi Mikel and Mark Clattenburg the obvious case.

I am struggling, yes. Black is a colour, of hair and skin, so if I say you black haired *, or you black skinned *, one is worse than the other for what reason? What if somebody who is ginger was more offended by being called a ginger * than a black guy being called a black *? There's no law against it but he is more affected by the remark..?
