Exactly respect the fans because at the end of the day there has been great Celtic teams, average Celtic teams and poor Celtic teams but the fans have always made sure we were heard across the world you take that away and we are just another team from a small country that has a poor league. The fans do make this club stand out not the * empty suits in the stands who dont appreciate them.

That's a lot of nonsense. Just another excuse to go board bashing in a thread where its got nothing to do with the board. The rise of the EPL has been the biggest factor in Celtic not being as widely supported as it once was, and I think the support that Celtic had in Ireland was vastly over-estimated for years anyway. Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal have been bigger teams in Ireland for donkeys. Well before Lawell got anywhere near the boardroom. We were a 'second team' for many people which means * all really. None of it stems from a lack of investment from the board.

Not as big as I thought. I'm seeing a Derry girl and none of her family support Celtic. I thought there'd be at least one

I lived in Ireland for about two years and traveled around a lot of places both North and South watching matches of the local teams for some weird kind of job. I don't think I can add anything to the discussion that a scot or an irish cant, but I have the feeling that most if not all the Liverpool and Man Utd would regard Celtic as something like the national team, that everybody unanimously back. In those matches often I saw people with a Celtic jersey or hoodie and if they were in those games that sadly most of Ireland doesn't give a *, that one playing was probably their first team. Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Barcelona shirts could be spotted too but weren't nearly as common. I've never met someone who actively had a grudge against Celtic bar some League of Ireland supporters in forums with some (rightful, I would even say) grievance against "barstoolers" and "glory hunters". My three best friends supported Arsenal, Everton and the other one nobody in particular but they would always stop to see the important Celtic games and one even used to travel to Parkhead for a game once in a year or something. Some said about they not even being able to name our starting eleven
but I suspect they couldn't name their national team either. A lot, would even say most, Irish follow GAA or rugby with much more interest than football.

City have had their fair share of Irish talent at the club so I can see why someone could have picked them up as a team in the few years before the money came, Richard Dunne, Shay Given, Stephen Ireland and Niall Quinn are a few I can name off the top of my head.

If you look at Irish forums like boards.ie or politics.ie quite a lot of Irish people don't like Celtic. Call Celtic fans 'Plastic paddies' and 'Pub republicans' etc.

League of ireland fans dont like Celtic out of pure jealousy they see us a team with international players and regular champions league and wonder why theyre 2 bob semi pro teams cant be like us because Ireland and Scotland are relatively the same

My experience of LOI fans is that they are hateful, not for the reason you said, for the reason that the vast majority of them despise the GAA, our own national sport!

There is nothing more disgusting than seeing the back page headlines being took up by Soccer matches/rumors when there was a big GAA game on the weekend or day before.
I have accepted it with most of the papers in the country these days though.

You could add rugby to that the media coverage of Rugby is disproportionate to the interest people have in rugby. The Irish media seem obsessed with promoting the EPL and rugby. It is a shame our number one sport has to play third fiddle to these two.

I think the Sam usually get precedence over most things soccer related from the quarters on. Especially if they can * Dublin in some way. The rugby is a Dublin-centric thing too.

In the north we are big in dundalk where I am from I think there is two supporters clubs at the moment. Man U , liverpool would have the most celtic would be on a par with arsenal and chealsea . Kids would all follow the epl , in the days of o neil there would have lots of celtic strips around.
But its not like that now in most big towns there is at least one celtic supporters club the further south you go the harder it is to catch games. celtic fans get demonised in the media here all the time as extreme republician scumbags especially by the broadsheet papers. We have lost ground but there would be still a fair amount of support. At the liverpool freindly we had about 10,000 they had the rest.

What i've noticed with southern Irish fans is they all support us in a big game and they will wipe the cob-webs off their old celtic shirt and put it for big europe games like the Uefa final. But as far as following the SPL, I really think that is a small amount compared to the Man Utd and Liverpool fans that watch every EPL game their team is in. A lot of Irish people
30 somethings will support Celtic and an English team but I think with the kids and teens that is rare. I noticed Chelsea and Arsenal fans in large numbers as well when I was over in their but that was young lads.

I'm from Waterford (south east of Ireland) and I can only think of myself and maybe 4 others in my town of roughly 10,000 that support Celtic as there first team. I know a few that support Liverpool and claim to support Celtic as well but I don't buy it.

That is absolute bullshit. Tbh I'm more into soccer then the GAA sports and haven't been to a Dublin game since 2009, but i'm still very interested in the GAA i'd just rather spend my money supporting Bohs in the LOI. Most of the LOI fans that I know are massive GAA fans who go to the home and away Dublin games whether it be football or hurling.

So what do you call the people who follow us? What is the connection for a southern Irishman? They have no more ties to us than Liverpool or ManU.

That surprises me. Some Fine Gael-West Brit type of people maybe? Politics.ie for me feels like Stormfront lite, it makes me sick to read that thing.

A lad before mentioned how surprised he was about Ireland having Man City, etc supporters. That's nothing. I've met Fullham, Leeds (a lot of them to be honest) supporters, been to a fully packed friendly between Aston Villa and Shamrock Rovers (where I met some people from the Dungannon Aston Villa supporters club!), a friendly against WBA with quite a few local fans, and even more baffling, TWO Hibernian supporters. Meanwhile I could count in the fingers of one hand how many of them support only or primarily an Irish side.

Why southern Irishman as opposed to Irishman?

As for as ties to "us" is concerned we have as much ties as any of you. Your whole post is nonsensical.

As far as "southern" goes, I'm not the first to recognize and difference between them. I was only trying to be specific. Who are "we" and "you"?

    Why is it nonsensical?
