I answered that question already: Lawwell would have lost his job. We are now a PLC and so the board is legally obliged not to do things like that which are likely to cost the shareholders money. I do agree with you, it would have been the right thing to offer. What can we, as Celtic fans, do about that, though?

This whole stupid situation would not have happened if UEFA weren't too gutless and bureaucratic to invoke the discretionary clause on the basis of common sense.

Really? Can you provide examples please of where a team fielded a suspended player in UEFA competition game that meant something and nothing was done about it as both clubs agreed to let it go.

Exactly what I think too, mate. I feel very, very sorry for them (I think the decision was totally unjust) and would be very willing to change my mind if they provided any decent evidence at all. Until then, you are right: why should we step aside in favour of Maribor?

Also for those who're annoyed at UEFA for enforcing THEIR RULES...... where you also this angry when we where somewhat harshly fined for various things like singing rather harmless songs, usually the response was "you should be angry as UEFA are just enforcing their rules".

The day UEFA make exceptions is the day their rules become worthless, because you cannot make things up as you go along.... if a rule's in place then it's up to the club to stick to it or face the consequences. I mean it's not like this was the most difficult of rules to follow either.

Play by the rules next time if you don't want this situation to arise. :50:

If we were allowed to cherry pick which rules we abide by, the game would have no sporting merit.

I don't know, mate. I think it's been established that this was an accident. They only had 23 players registered for St Pats. They weren't cherry picking which rules to follow, just forgot to put a name on a bit of paper. I think it's a wee bit unfair to admonish them for that.

I agree he's been better than the rest but the fact he is bringing our clubs reputation into disrepute with nothing to base his argument on but twitter rumours is disrespectful, he's been told multiple times that Celtic weren't giving a say in the matter and if they were why they couldn't have let Legia through.

This. Why the * would UEFA ask Celtic to make the decision on whether or not to enforce their own rules in a case that was only indirectly related to Celtic (they just happened to be Legia's opposition when they – inadvertantly or not – broke they rules)? UEFA are the governing body, not Celtic; any suggestion that Celtic had anything to do with this decision is utter bullshit made up by Polish supporters (and probably knuckledragging Scottish ones) aimed at discreting our club.

That's gross negligence then. Did one of the Legia officials have money on Celtic? :smiley-laughing002:

If UEFA consult clubs before enforcing the rules, perhaps we can avoid some fines in the future. Sure Rennes had no problem with the * UEFA banner. :smiley-laughing002:

I am sorry, and does being beaten 6-1 and advancing have sporting merit. Come on mate.

For those of you who can't comprehend unless stated 5 times: I already said. Legia is at fault. Nobody here is denying that. It is not just, it is not right, it is not what sport should be about, but it is what it is.

This doesn't change the fact that foreign media do say that Celtic didn't act with class. I am not going to change that, and whatever you say here is not going to change that. Sport is supposed to be pure and clean. you are better, yo uwin, you get rewarded. When that is not happening, people are hurt and they are looking for sides to blame. In this case it's Legia (who * up), UEFA (who had to follow the rules they set themselves while having different situations in mind), and Celtic (for not righting this entire fuckup). They weren't obliged to and you can argue that it would be stupid from some perspectives, but the facts are: it looks bad.

Again. Its the foreign media. Legia's fans are not blaming Celtic.

And Legia intended to play by the rules. Somebdoy just screwed up badly by interpreting them badly. It is not a case in which a team cheated in order to gain advantage. its a major fuckup but its not intentional breaking of rules.

And when it comes to settlements I was talking about general court cases, not situations involving UEFA (because lets face it, those suckers punish for everything and close the stands whenever they have a chance to do that as experience multiple times by legia in past seasons).

Anyway, much respect for those guys who didn't enjoy having their arses kicked on the field and advancing because of beaurocracy, and are able to admit that things shouldn't be decided that way and punishment is excessive. Unfortunately that seemed to be minority here

Every club in the world would be delighted if they got a second chance like this. Legia ultimately have only themselves to blame.

"A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a disciplinary decision participates in the match." - How is that hard to understand?

I feel sorry as * for Legia Warsaw fans over this whole debacle but * coming on here and insulting Celtic and its fans over your mistake. You's were the better team, that's not debatable, but it is YOUR clubs fault 100%, not ours.
