Hi guys. I just wanted to shed some light on the situation that just happened.

    - Legia registered 23 players for St. Patricks, with 25 being the limit so the fact that Bereszynski wasnt on the list wasnt an attempt to replace him by another player to gain advantage but idiotic mistake by administartion since there were spots left

    - The board tried to make this case fall under paragraph 21.3 ('not elligible' 'may'; instead of 21.2: 'suspended' 'must'). They failed and a chairman publicly apologized for that.

    - UEFA knew that the decision they are forced to make is unfair. They asked Celtic to write a note saying they won't appeal the judgment if its not in their favor. The rules are worded poorly so that was the only way around it.
    - Celtic refused to do such thing behind closed doors although publicly they were saying that they don't want to benefit from this situation. Moreover, they haven't responded to any emails, phone calls and were nowhere to be found between thursday and friday until the draw.
    - Legia is going to appeal straight to the Tribunal in Switzerland. Now, its obvious UEFA never changes their decision so it is just to * them off.

    Official statement from UEFA:
"Legia have been sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player (article 18 of the UEFA Champions League regulations and article 21 of the Disciplinary Regulations). The match has been declared as forfeit meaning Legia Warszawa have lost the match 3-0," a UEFA statement said.
"As a consequence, Celtic have qualified for the UEFA Champions League play-offs on away goals (agg: 4-4) and Legia will compete in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
"In addition the player Bartosz Bereszynski has been suspended for one additional UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible. This suspension shall be added to the remaining two match suspension which the player still has to serve in accordance with the Control and Disciplinary Body decision of 13 February 2014."

Now, if that will be the explanation sent to the club, they now do have a basis to say that player was ineligible, instead of suspended, making it fall under 21.3, instead of 21.2 but we all know thats not going to happen.

This entire situation is a farce. Legia screwed up badly and the fault lays on them. Not going to argue about it. The truth though is that punishment is not adequate since UEFA used a word 'ineligible' which suggest there were other options than DQ, of course if it counts as an official statement.

Anyway, not why I am here. I have been following Celtic since Holy Goalie joined and was taking a * at Rangers' fans. Found it incredibly amusing and I just love the guy's baldness. I appreciate the tradition that Celtic has and am amazed by the spectacular fanbase (although judging other fanbases based on one transparent from ages ago is just plain stupid).

The only thing that really bothers me in this situation that UEFA basically came out and publicly said that it is up to Celtic. We all knew PL is going to choose money, no question about it. But looking at the media outrage from all over the Europe this will badly influence Celtic's reputation. Basically what PL did: he got himself 20 millions, because lets face it, even with display like against Legia, Celtic is not losing with Maribor, and in order to do that he took Celtic's values, reputation and publicly wiped his * with it. That could have been avoided if UEFA made the decision by themselves, but they werent going to risk Celtic going to court and suing so they tried to force PL's hand.

So my question here is: as a fans, do you value your reputation more than your chairman's 20 million bonus? If that's the case then I would be * about what just happened instead of celebrating.

Anyway, good luck against Maribor and in Champions League group stages. Once you get into it I will probably get over this situation and cheer for Celtic

There is a citation from UEFA delegate, but it was a Polish one so might have been biased. Don't see why he would lie though because that was still on thursday evening.

And besides, Legia is kind of a laughingstock right now, just because after 18 years they are close to CL, after squashing mighty Celtic on the field (very respected team in Poland, well, at least until today morning) and miss out because some blonde bimbo forgot to put a check mark next to a player's name when sending a list of players to UEFA.

And the only team I could see beating Celtic at this stage (before the draw) was Ludogorec but you got the easiest opponent possible so should be a cakewalk.

And to other responses: I am not saying Celtic did anything wrong. Legia * up majorly, and so did UEFA by not giving themselves a way out by adding 'may' to that rule. Unfortunately UEFA washed their hands by putting the decision on Celtic, and then PL finished it off. For him
money>reputation of the Club on international stage

Yeah i think half of Warsaw was in Lawell's office this morning as they all seem to know Celtic's reaction to UEFA's investigation before anyone else did including Lawell himself. One club screwed up today and it ain't Celtic

Show me where we have publicly said such a thing.

Jesus! That's the basis for an appeal? They always use the word ineligable even for cases which fall under the 'suspended' banner. Check this for example:

    http://www.uefa.org/disciplinary/news/newsid=1845491.html

Again, show me where they have publically said such a thing.

Personally I couldn't give a rat's * about our reputation. Celtic are a plc and accountable to shareholders, why is it so difficult for Legia fans to understand this?

Lawell and celtic never had a thing to do with it we are basically being told we are taking part and that's that we don't have to say anything on the matter

    Get over it

    Speculation and conjecture.

Also the rules are not ambiguous, they are very clear regarding the definition between ineligible and suspended.
