I honestly don't see how they can't forfeit the game if this player was ineligible. Rules are put in place for a reason, allow them to be broken, and they might as well rip them up and start again.

Arsenal Kyiv were forced to forfeit a game they won 3-0 for the exact same reason. The player was suspended, they brought him on, obviously an honest mistake, and the result was overturned and the opposition were awarded a 3-0 victory. A precedent has been set.

Deterrent? The guy sat out the three games he was supposed to. All that happened is that one of their employees forgot to put a name on a form.

I guess you think UEFA have to send a strong signal here, to act as a deterrent. Otherwise next thing we know, everyone will be forgetting to put names on forms.

 

Think the difference is they didn't try to seek an advantage, they believed he had served his suspension and it was an an admin error around the players registration.. Much different from the Sion situation for example.. I'm sure UEFA ruled on a similar case to Legia and issued a fine..
