    It's a matter of precedent vs. written rule. What's stronger, in UEFA? Even if the situation isn't completely the same, couldn't Legia ask that legal analogy be applied?

    Different circumstance. If a player is uneligible through registration then the punishment is usually a fine. If however the player is suspended, which this guy was, then the punishment is the offending team forfeit the game and lose 3-0.

    If indeed it does prove that this guy hadn't served his full suspension and that he played against us then there can only be one outcome.. Regardless of the fact the pumped us over 2 legs. Rules are rules.

    ....but to actually answer your question, UEFA make a clear distinction between "ineligible" and "suspended" and the punishments are different.

    An ineligible player is one who is not registered (or unable to be registered) and fielding one of these is against the rules. Breaking this rule may result in forfeit but depends on appeals and is done case-by-case;

    A suspended one is one who's serving a suspension and fielding one is subject to a forfeit (no case-by-case).

    Debrecen fielded an ineligible player, not a suspended one.

    Are you joking? The harrassment of Celtic fans by club and police, was a far bigger concern than anything that happens on the field.

    Sorry if this has been covered but I read it was a 3 match ban? Would that not exclude the game at Murrayfield then? Or am I missing something? I count the 2 St. Pats qualifiers and the first leg. Hopefully I am!
