    absolute embarrassment from celtic. We were soundly beaten by legia both home and away and they are possibly going to be kicked out over a player who played the last few minutes of the second game of the tie. Not to mention the fact that this guy had sat out of the required 3 games.

    They didn't play him their first 3 games, as far as they were aware his ban was finished, story over.

    Would be embarrassing if anything came from this.

    In theory though you could say - whoever he replaced could have had a shocking last couple of minutes and caused 6 goals.

    as good as it sounds they were 6-1 up with 4 minutes too go and i can only see a fine coming there way. its the same situation with debrecen

    YON, Switzerland (AP) &mdash; UEFA has fined Debrecen <emdash />15,000 ($19,200) for fielding an ineligible player in the Europa League, but rejected a protest by opponent Litex Lovech to kick the Hungarians out of the competition.

    UEFA says its disciplinary panel agreed that Peter Mate should not have played last Thursday in the second leg of the playoffs. But UEFA says Debrecen used Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when it led 4-1 on aggregate.

    UEFA says Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favor."

    Litex can appeal the ruling before Debrecen opens group play on Sept. 16 at home against Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv.

    Don't be daft! They had us well beaten and had nothing to gain and everything to lose by bringing him on for the last 4 minutes. Of course it was an honest mistake.
