The Ledley thing is widely accepted that he ran his contract down, just as he did to Cardiff. No biggie. I'm sure there was an article around at the time which strongley alluded to it

Again, though, it's lazy supposition given as facts to beat the board with. If you are going to attack the club you purport to love, I'd at least ask you were accurate with the facts, that's all. :shamrock:

I'm not attacking the club just don't agree with the way things are going. It's just a feeling but a lot of the things that made supporting Celtic great have diluted under the way the club is run now. There is a feeling that they just want your money and they don't like it if you disagree or voice an opinion.

I think the board want a team on a limited wage structure for the long term and have been intent on restructuring the team to suit this business model. Lennon knew this and that's why he left. Ronnie has been instructed to build a team on a limited budget ,which suits Celtic playing in the SPL .The powers to be must have looked at the set up at stromsgodset ,a team who after promotion in recent seasons eventually win the Norwegian league. When you look at the EPL and the embarrassment of riches it has to offer ,we just cant compete. I suspect, due to the amount of money spent on duds recently, amido Balde etc, they need a manager who is proven in getting the best from youth,or gets maximum returns in the transfer market. This is the only way Celtic will operate. Will Ronnie be the right man for the job, on Paper yes
in reality, maybe, plenty of teams on smaller budgets can punch above their weight, even in Europe!. If we turn the tie around on Wednesday, it may be due to extraordinary circumstances, in another Celtic transition.

The £34.3million was 6 months, thats where the confusion is coming from with you and him. That guy said £14million in 6 months to run Celtic, Roy said it's £34million and you are saying half of £34million is £17million but it is actually £34million not half of it lol

It roughly costs around £45-50million a year to run Celtic without spending any money on transfers. So Celtic's income has to be £45million a season at least to break even really(without European football or selling players) which usually comes from £20million in ticket sales, £9million in sponsorships/advertising, £15million in merchandising and a few other million in various other things, usually floats around £44-52million depending on certain stuff like new kits released, how we'll we've done to gain extra sponsorship bonuses or more ticket sales etc

alot of people rattling off figures on here , nobody has an accurate idea of what we made spent over the years etc, the bottom line is there is a pattern emerging where we dont offer our important players new contracts (sammy ledley ) and sell our best ones ...the board do not want high earners at this club anymore....only 2 or 3 players earning over 10k....2 years ago you had about 6 . i can only hope it is a temporary downsize and we are stockpiling for when the huns are back.

Good to see sense has been restored.

RK, I agree with you completely, but I have to be a smart alec and give you an example of a player who wanted to stay and we let go: Sammy.

Of course it was right for both parties, so I'm just being a * for the sake of it. :icon_mrgreen:

I think some are confusing downsizing with stagnation. The reality is the best players will be sold on and replaced by new projects. Year to year we aren't seeing a strengthening side (at least on paper). So people just see the headlines, Van Dijk, Forster etc leaving and see the names coming in as Gordon and that Cardiff dude (the one who had his debut last week) and think (understandably) downsizing.

For me it is hugely frustrating but what else can we do? The reality is this will continue for the foreseeable future.

Standing still and stagnating because the rest of euro top leagues can pay more in wages than you and earn 10 or 20 or 30 times more than you get for wining the fplfplf is not downsizing.
I agree we are getting left behind badly and its a very sad day when celtic struggle to attract the players they want.

You are. You are attacking something you love.

Put it simply you are an abusive partner in a relationship, attacking something/someone you supposedly love. Its not our role to attack or even disagree.

We most give uncritical, unconditional support out of LOVE for our club.

Indeed. The Leagues of the eastern Europe are rising. As Platinni said, and once strong ones are turning to decadence. An encouraging sign for the game.

All our fans here speak out because we care about the club.

There's this thing called critical thinking, questioning what the board do is essential to Celtic. You do remember the pre Mcann years I take it, where fans pretty much saved the club because they spoke up?

I support our manager, our players and fellow support, however, we must always be asking questions of the board and they are doing with OUR club.

If you can't see that, you are naive my friend.

No sense even discussing it with them, mate. They are blinded.

And ironically are the actual ones pulling the club down, not us realists.

See this is the sort of * I can't abide by.

Ljungberg and Lassad were FREE TRANSFERS ffs!!!

Utter bullshit being spouted. Someone with facts come and give me 1 valid reason, not PR bluster, excuses or lies, give me ONE good reason why Celtic have not shown any ambition in the last few years?

As has been said, we are stagnating rather than downsizing, which is equally painful especially when there is no reason for the stagnation. The team had been getting better and better on the pitch under Lennon, and the board totally let him and them down by not supporting further improvement.
