With the rumours of Watt being on his way, and the possible sales of both Forster & Van Dijk along with the signing of Gordon the question i'm asking is, who calls the shots?

Personally, I think we've now completely entered an era where the manager has next to no say in who actually gets brought in.

I think he coaches the side, identifies the positions that need filling and will inform both John Park & Peter Lawwell of the style of player he wants before both Park & Lawwell go off and find someone who fits the criteria at the right price.

As far as players going out, I don't think the manager has much say there either. I feel that if a bid is deemed satisfactory the manager will be told that someone is leaving, and that he should think about if that position can be filled from within, or if there has to be a new player brought in. At that point it would follow the system I mentioned above for players being brought in.

I also don't think he has any say in contract extensions beyond being asked about the players importance within the squad.

Does anyone else agree? Or am I underestimating the sway that Deila has at the club?

It's becoming more like American sports, with a GM, etc. Ronny is more like an old fashioned Assisstant that is big on spending time on the training field with the players, etc.

I just wish we'd hire someone who knows the game, rather than rely on businessmen/guys in suits.

Why's it always a tea lady, rather than a tea lord. I know for sure who makes the tea in my house, at least! :smiley-laughing002:

I doubt Deila will have much say tbh, the board know that he's greatful just to have the job and that he'll happily deal with whatever players PL leaves him with. :icon_mrgreen:

Lawell completely controls the outs but id say park and ronnie will find the players and lawell sanction and be the main man at the talks
And if its real big money like wanyama desmond might give lawell a call

the scouting staff will be having secret meeting in the bowels of celtic park with a certain mr lawwell to determine who comes in and who goes out, after all we've become less of a football club chasing silverware and glory and more of a company involved in the brokering of young footballers to the highest bidder.
would love to know were all the millions we've accumulated over the last few years in CL + transfer money has been spent on ????

I'd say you are pretty much on the money.

To put it in simplistic terms...............

If the manager wants a player but Peter Lawwell doesn't think he's worth the money(fee and wages) then that player's not coming.
