Biggest turnaround in our 127 year history and at the same time we need the exact same result we got against Karagandy last year. Nobody thought we had a chance then and nobody probably thinks we have a chance now. An early goal will put the * right up them, all we need to do is defend well and we have a great chance of going through. Have a little faith instead of believing it's a foregone conclusion we are beaten before a ball is even kicked.

We're playing Legia though, not Ajax, Benfica, Spartak Moscow etc

We don't need "European quality" strikers to beat a team who'd finish 2nd/3rd/4th in the SPL.

Karagandy were utterly *. That was easy as they sat back for 90 minutes, didn't even attempt to play football, and just let us attack them at will.

Legia aren't brilliant but they're far more street smart than the Kazakhs. They will sit back, bide their time, and destroy us on the counter any opportunity they get. And considering our first touch and passing is woeful, I can see them getting many such opportunities.

I of course hope we win 7-0. But I have prepared myself for the (extremely likely) scenario that we go out, and have to play in the EL play offs.

We were hardly tearing teams apart most of the time in the SPL last season though. Griffiths seems to have something about him but more often that not we ran into a brick wall and our * sideways passing didn't work, so we relied on magic from Commons.

Legia were clever though they knew Commons was our only real threat and know how great he is from range so double or treble marked him. He only got through their defence once and then blew it over.
They will sit on their 18 yard line and mark the * out of us. We would need Messi to get through.

    Personally I'd go with
    Matthews Lustig Virgil Emilio
rather than playing Mulgrew at the back

& ? Anything result can happen.

We beat Barcelona. We also got hammered by Artmedia Bratislava. These results happen from time to time.

Do some people on here genuinely think its out of the realms of possibility that we can beat Legia Warsaw 3-0 in front of our own fans?

    I think we'll do it

    Exactly.

If we pump Legia 6-0 I wont be going nuts thinking we are Brazil 1982 and ready to storm the Champions League. We are capable of pumping an inferior team to us, so before the games player theres no reason at all to doubt we could.

    Not really.

If they sit back, which lets be honest they would be stupid if they didn't. I don't think we're able to break them down.

Our frontline fill with no confidence what so ever. Then our defence. VVD apart its bomb scares galore & even he had a horror show in Warsaw.

Why are people acting like we're playing Real Madrid :smiley-laughing002: ?

As I keep saying, we are pish but so are they. At least our players are experience in these big occasions. An early goal and their arses will collapse.

Obviously the major problem is our strikers are * but we have goals from Commons, midfield and even Van Dijk and Mulgrew at CB.

Before the game against Legia, we'd played 12 qualifying ties from the 2012-13 season, scoring 19 goals and conceding 3.

In the league last season, we lost 1 game in 38. We lost 3 in 41 domestically.

In the Champions League proper, we've beaten Spartak Moscow twice, Ajax once, Barcelona once and drawn against a Benfica side that went on the play in the final of the Europa League. We twice lost narrowly to Barcelona, lost narrowly to Benfica and lost narrowly to Ajax.

So what is this based on? The only result that stands out is the loss to Legia. A freak performance and result that; a game that we ended with 10 men.

Forster, Matthews, Lustig, Ambrose, Izaguirre, Mulgrew, and Commons remain from that first campaign and will be available tomorrow night. Quality doesn't fly out of the window over night.

We've lost some key players in Hooper, Samaras, Ledley and Wanyama but with the crowd behind us on Wednesday night we absolutely can hammer these * 3-0 if we play out of our skins. They're no great shakes. We've overcome far better in the past and we'll overcome far better in the future.

Probably not. Lot of people in our support pick up and drop Celtic when it suits them.

Doesn't matter if we we're playing Real Madrid or KR Reykyavik.

Its still a major task turning this around. One I don't think we would be able to do.

Doomed if we're depending on goals from midfield from the off. Strikers are almost a write off. Only one in decent form is Pukki ffs.

Well hope VVD is concentrating on Wednesday will need that. Mulgrew, we'll recon he'd should be dropped personally.
